Apparently not content with its efforts so far to make gun ownership more difficult and expensive for America’s 100 million firearm owners, a source tells TTAG that the Biden administration is taking steps to reduce the availability of .223/5.56 ammunition available to the average shooter.

A person with knowledge of the situation tells us that, more than just “considering” the move, Winchester, which operates the US Army’s Lake City ammunition plant, has been informed that it may no longer sell M855 and SS109 ammunition produced in excess of the military’s needs on the civilian market.
How would that affect the civilian supply of .223 and 5.56 ammunition? We understand that as much as 30% of the commercial market’s sales volume of .223/5.56 is produced by Lake City.

All it takes is that first step to start opening the door to more and more regulation

I'm surprised this didn't happen under Obama.

Obama tried by having all these agencies like the IRS and other agencies purchase hundreds of thousands of rounds in the attempt to dry up the surplus and increase prices for regular consumers. It didn't work, but at least he didn't have the balls enough to go directly to the manufacturer.

I wonder if they can sell of the components individually rather than the finished product.

This report is supposedly erroneous and fake.
LINK
The guy in the link even talked to a Congressman about it. Funding for the plant's civ sales is already earmarked.
I also heard another gun store owner who said that, if this is was indeed true, that it's not because of "gun control" but basically because the US military is running out of ammo. There are no lead smelting plants left in the States anymore after eco regs basically shut them all down and China and Russia now control almost all of one key ingredients used in lead hardening for projectiles, and the have all but cut us off.

Who do you think is running the show now?

223 is the commodity ammo and screwing with availability will make a lot of hoarders a lot of cash

Still seems the result could be a "shortage" for awhile.

So the feds own it and just have Winchester produce it?

Republican president would just reopen it like Bush with the AWB during Clinton right? Isn't there a conspiracy about "Lake City Quiet Pills" or Poison Pills or something? But time to stock up on .308

The AWB expired. Bush would've signed a new ban into law if the legislature voted on one. The Bush family are no friends of the second ammendment. In 1989, Bush 1 signed an executive order banning many rifles from being imported. The EO is still in effect to this day.
