Saw where a new lake is being built just west of Columbia, Louisiana. The earth dam is complete and it appears ready for the control structure. The group that is building it has purchased close to 6,000 acres to flood.

There are some really deep bottoms in that area, at least for that part of the state.

Soon? Not likely , This project has been in the works for almost 30 years. I live near Columbia and would love to have a lot on the lake, but....

Isn’t this another State boondoggle pushed by Francis Thompson and his engineering firm? I’m sure Poverty Point makes money hand over fist for the state.

I just moved back to Louisiana after being away for 20 years. I wasn't aware it had been in the works for so long. I guess we're looking at another "Caney" type situation.

Thanks for the info.

Do you know if they’ve made any progress on Castor Creek? I noticed it’s also been given the green light.

I'm hoping this lake gets finished soon. Living in central Louisiana, there really aren't that many good watersports lakes to choose from- most lakes are wooded over. Descriptions of this lake say it will be good for watersports, so I assume they will cut the timber before they flood the drainage (wow, what a concept!) I love the Columbia area so going up there to camp and play in the water on weekends will be awesome!

Why did they choose a name of an existing lake?
quote:

As proposed by the Bayou DeChene Reservoir Commission on behalf of the Caldwell Police Jury, the future Bundick Lake will not only be used for recreational use and flood control, but as a supply of fresh water which is planned to produce over 6 million gallons of water per day.

Anyway, looks like phase two begins in July.

Never been on the Ouachita/Red river?
These make work projects are a waste of money for the taxpayers of Louisiana.
