I have recently introduced quail feathers to bumpers and my pup goes absolutely nuts when we train with them. She loves them. So much so, that I have a difficult time when I throw multiple marks and use the feathered bumper mixed in with other bumpers. She will mark and run to the bumper without feathers but won't pick it up because she can smell the feathers and wants that particular bumper, even if it 50 yards in the opposite direction. She just keeps hunting for it. I have a feeling its time to force fetch or either when training with the feathered bumper, just leave the others out of the mix. Opinions?

Mine did the same. So i stopped with feathers and just coated all bumpers in liquid scent. I only pull the feather bumpers out when i will use just them. Otherwise i use plain bumpers with scent. As long as feather isnt an option he will grab anyhing

It's time to force fetch if the pups teeth are ready. A properly forced retriever will pick up anything it is physically able when given the command.
