Need help with my truck AC (05 Silverado)

Have a 2005 Silverado (4.8 V8, no trucknuts). Never had any problems with my AC, but recently it’s stopped blowing cold air. I tried the easy ‘just charge it with Freon’ fix, but when I hooked up to my service port, the gauge immediately went to the red which meant ‘see technician’.
I noticed that my compressor runs intermittently. It comes on, spins for 3-5 seconds, then stops. Then repeats over and over while the AC is on. Not sure if that’s normal or if that means my compressor is bad so I was looking for some advice
I checked all my fuses and they seemed ok
Watched some YouTube videos on changing compressors and it looked like a MF, so I’d like to make sure that’s my problem before switching it out

So it blowing, but not cold air right

Check the low (maybe high?) pressure switch, aka cycle switch, specifically check the wiring harness. I changed the switch on my wife’s Tahoe but the wiring harness is loose and I have to re-seat it occasionally. Check YouTube for how to where is.
Edit 2 my issue wasn’t the same as what you describe.

The compressor spinning up and then off can be a few things. Generally its either low refrigerant or it could be high head pressure due to the condenser coil being clogged up. It could also be a loose switch.
Have you ever cleaned the condenser coil? It's not hard. With the truck off, spray it down with some outdoor coil cleaner. Let it sit for a few minutes and with the normal stream of the hose (not high pressure from the nozzle) rinse it out. Do this a few times to make sure it's clean. Then crank it up and see if it runs cool or not. May not be the problem but that is a relative free fix and I've had this happen before on on a couple of vehicles.
Condenser should be right front of the radiator and you should be able to do this thru the grill.
You could also have a clogged orifice tube as well. If you have never serviced the AC system in car, a professional will have to do this for as they have the equipment to capture and recycle the refrigerant.
To truly test what's going on you need someone with a set of manifold gauges to hook up the to the system and see what the pressures are. That will tell them fairly quickly which direction to look in.

I had an 06 that started blowing hot, like burning hot. It was a blend door actuator right on top the middle hump under the dash. I think there’s another one behind the glove box somewhere, don’t know if that has something to do with the dual climate control or not.
Someone here suggested that’s what it was

Your compressor is bad. When the compressor goes bad the high and low side pressure equalize and the low side will read really high.

Buy or rent some gauges, you need to know high and low side numbers. I’ve rebuilt 2 A/Cs and they are a good size job but not impossible. YouTube is your friend.....

the tension pulley went out on my '99 z71 a year or so ago. it kept the belt from engaging the clutch. may want to check that.

It could be a relay or something easy but if your luck is anything like mine it’s the clutch or compressor. It’s going to be expensive. Had my excursion done for $900. Might as well change out the serpentine belt while it’s off.

Would that cause it to turn on and off intermittently?

No. Gonna give this a shot tomorrow
If not I’m gonna bring it to a professional Tuesday. Too hot for this shite
Thanks for the replies

My 2007 started blowing hot air. It was a bad blend door actuator located behind the dash above the floorboard. It wasn't opening and closing properly to prevent heat from entering.
This could be your problem as well.
