Was he not wearing snake boots while looking for snakes?

Nah, I don't think he will!

I took the opposite approach - for my whole life I’ve avoided fooling with venomous snakes because I valued my hands too much. Having retired from dentistry years ago though, I can now afford to lose a finger or two - it certainly won’t make me any worse at playing guitar.

Refer to my previous comment on gear.

You’re 100% right on that one - there’s no excuse for actively seeking snakes and not having at least some type of protective leg coverage.

He definitely will - one of the first things he said in the hospital. He’s already actively seeking a snake boot sponsor.

I hope you're making that up?
If not...

Is he looking for a handout or is he looking for protection from snake bites?

It’s not a “handout” - it’s a sponsorship or collaboration. The guy has 1.5 million instagram followers and 2.3 million on Tik Tok. That’s worth advertisement dollars in the social media world. It’s 2025, baw.

Laugh all you want - the guy makes a living running around the country catching snakes. What I pay thousands of dollars a month to do, he gets paid to do. I fail to see what’s funny about that.

Options:
A) You pay $400 for a pair of snake boots
B) A company sends you a free pair of $400 snake boots so you’ll be seen on social media wearing their boots

Which one you picking?

How many dollars would ya say that's worth? More or less than $400? More or less than the expenses he recently incurred?

I definitely got a chuckle out of it.

Let me quote the last line of the linked article...seems funny to me! Maybe you can find the humor in it as well?

He and his wife set up a gofundme to help pay for Humphlett’s medical bills.

Definitely sounds like looking for a handout to me!

Maybe your boy should have been looking for a "sponsorship or collaboration" prior to this event?

A lot more. He made more than double that off the bite video alone.

A lot less.
Which is why friends stepped in and set up the gofundme.

100% he should have - and I’ve made it clear that there’s no excuse for not wearing protection.

Except they didn’t.
Friends from his church did. And he & his wife were both upset that the news got that part wrong. Several news articles got several things wrong.

Never.
In what way was he careless?

The shirtless baw is very adept at handling venomous snakes. As far as the other couple along for the ride in a very hands-off way, he never would have let them get close to that snake.

So if any of you guys could take a few 30 second videos of yourself while hunting or fishing and get to quit your day job - or at a minimum get paid enough to finance your out of state trips - you wouldn’t do it?

To each his own. I love your snake pics you post here. Crowd funding to pay for his carelessness is a bit much

Failing to see a well camouflaged snake isn’t carelessness. There have been numerous times I’ve almost stepped on snakes even while actively looking for them.

Unless you define “looking for snakes” as careless activity - and that’s just fear, not carelessness.

If he was a bird watcher moving through the woods to get a better view of a bird and got bit by a snake he didn’t see, would that be carelessness or happenstance?
