Missing 411 cases are a colloquial classification that documents missing person cases that fit a number of criteria: The disappearance occurred in a national park, rural area, or large reserve of public land. Exceptionally odd circumstances surround the disappearance.

I just started to read this book. Wow. It is very interesting. There are thousands of missing people in the wilderness who are unaccounted for. Missing 411-the hunted focuses on hunters who go missing. I am seeing that most of the hunters who don’t make it back are bow hunters, the old, hunters stuck in sudden weather changes, and people with disabilities. Some of the cases are just strange and bizarre such as finding numerous victims with their shoes and socks missing. The book tries to tie in some super natural events as the possible cause of some of the disappearances but I’m not saying I believe in all of that. But that does appeal to some.

Some advice I have gathered from reading this is when you go hunting bring a ton of ammo with you. At least 15-20 rounds. If you get lost, injured, or sick and need help...you will need to fire three shots in the air as you signal for distress. You might have to signal 5-7 times before anybody hears you. High capacity 9mm is a great safety gun to bring with you.

Anybody else here read these 411 stories?

I've heard the author on C2C radio several times. Some pretty spooky stories.

Agreed. Honestly it would take 3 if not 4 times for someone to do this for me to think it was an emergency.

Honestly I usually just take the whole box of 20 shells. Take 5 out or whatever to load the gun and keep the box in the pack. Certainly it’s not usually a full 20, but still.

I guess I'm screwed.

I usually only carry 5 arrows and even if I shoot 3 in quick succession I doubt anyone will be able to locate me.....

(Edit...unless I shoot them from an old High Country bow.....Then they would hear it when it blew up) :)

Get a freakin PLB

They are under $500 and will save your arse. I was in colorado a few weeks ago and almost needed mine due to altitude sickness. Knowing I had it if I needed it helped get me out, my buddies talking me out was the biggest thing.

A guy had to get flown out from where we were, and another older man went missing. His search and rescue turned into just a search after 2 days. They still havent found him

Get a PLB
