You obviously have not kept up with River over the past several years. The river has been consistently higher over the past 3 to 5 years than it has been in the past 50 years. There is obviously something going on and it’s not just rainfall.

The river bottom is 100% getting higher. Intuitively, if the river can’t spill its banks and drop its sediment, it will drop it in the river.

Siltation has been occurring in the lower reaches since the cutoff programs in the 1930s & 1940s, which "oversteepened" the lower Mississippi River.

I just wished they would alternate spillways instead of always opening up the Bonnet Carre. It's time to dump fresh water on the West side via the Morganza, instead of always sending it into the Lake Pontchartrain Basin.

I don't understand why the Bonnet Carre isn't constantly open to help fight saltwater intrusion into Pontchartrain and Maurpas. I see no reason why they have to close it and wait until the last minute to relieve pressure on the levees. Just don't let it build at all.

As for the Morganza, I don't think they believe they can close it if they were to reopen it.

Article has some sensationalized material but never knew it was Einstein's son who was responsible for leading the design charge up at Morganza.

Additional rainfall in the Midwest

This. Since 2012, we have flooded here in southern Illinois more than the 20 years prior.
