Looking to repower an old Wellcraft V20. I'm considering a Mercury 150 4 stroke, seems they've done their homework on this motor. I like the low weight, the SOHC 8 valve design, timing chain, ease of maintenance. Anyone have one of these motors or fishes with someone who does? Just looking for some honest first hand experience.

I have one on a 2018 Nitro Z18 and love it; it's quiet, powerful and the fuel economy is ridiculous.

This is my 2nd Merc 4 stroke (1st was a 60) and I've liked both.....definitely recommend.

I have one on a 21 Kenner. I love it. It’s powerful and quiet and the maintenance is easy. I only have like 30 hours on mine but I’m enjoying it.

Thanks for the replies! On that 21 Kenner, what is the claimed weight of that boat? What speeds and fuel economy are you seeing?

I'm also considering the 200 Merc 4 stroke. I can't figure out how they managed to only gain 20 lbs vs the 150hp while they added 3 more cams, 2 more cylinders, and 16 more valves. The cost isn't much more either. I still like the simplicity of the inline 4 cylinder though.

I have the rolled edge version, it’s supposed to be 1350 lbs. I have added a lean post, three batteries, a charger, a jack plate, and an ipilot. I usually have around 30 gallons of fuel, two guys, and a big ice chest.

I started w a 23 prop and ran 53ish really light but I didn’t get enough rpms. I’ve kept going down trying to find the right one. Now I have a 18, I do 47ish light but it gets on a plane almost instantly. I think a different prop might go faster.

I’m not the best guy to ask about fuel economy, I hover around 4500-4600 rpms everywhere I go. Most of the the time I check, I’m right around 4mpgs.

Sweet. Thanks for the insight and time. I'm trying to keep the transom light as possible with 4 stroke power since the self bailing. My boat weighs a claimed 1860 lbs. If I can cruise high 30s or 40mph, that's plenty enough for me. The boat has a 60 gal tank. I want range since I fill the boat up by hand using 5 gallon tanks as I keep the boat in the water. Thanks again

I have a 23 year old Yamaha 2 stroke. Still runs and doesn't miss a beat. I like Yamaha and Tohatsu but I think this Merc is looking better built than the Yamaha in this case. No valve adjustments, lighter weight, more displacement, timing chain, better corrosion protection. Yeah, we know it's not a Yamaha

What prices are you looking at for the 150 vs the 200? And do the prices include the controls? I’m going to be in the market to repower in the next year or two.

I'm hearing that one and the 175 Suzuki are 2 of the better new motors to come out in the last couple years.
