I don't get it either.

Modern farmers are the most productive humans to ever live.

It all hinges around the issue of subsidizing income/lifestyle. It's liberal policy which many otherwise conservative people accept.

Farmers really fricked themselves in the 1900s. Monsanto an a few others have them by the ballsack now.

Never criticize farmers with your mouth or belly full....

Subsidies started to prevent what happened in the dust bowl era.....

Subsidies and handouts are two different things......we already import too much food...talk about a strategic choke point......

A farmer is hardly a welfare leech. They are the most productive humans to ever walk this earth.

It's an ideological thing. Why not subsidize all businesses or none?

Subsidizing business is a left wing notion and many folks disagree with it. If you like subsidizing business, you probably should be supporting the Democrats.

if you might take the time to read my original and maybe 2nd response, you might see that I was refering to the "poor mouthing" farmers do and can yet somehow afford more than 98% of the working population..

For the record, I'm extremely right wing, ultra conservative,, I don't think my business or anybody elses deserves subsidies, handouts, or free anything. Yeah, I know plenty about the dustbowl, and that has absolutely nothing to do with buying new trucks and suburbans, Nothing.

Many industries are subsidized. They use different terms like tax deferment s and import tariffs, and so on.

You could say bass pro is "subsidized"

I'm not knocking farmers. I'm quite envious of yall. I'm just commenting on what OG said about them poor mouthing in their King Ranch F250s. I know the new truck every year or 2 has a lot to do with tax issues and such.

Dang thread on the OT got deleted. I really do want to know the outside perception of what percentage of inputs that subsidies cover.

apparently admins hate farmers too, ot thread got whacked... I wanted to share these pics for those of you who believe that there is no risk in farming.
Govt bailouts, subisides, welfare and whatever other word youd like to use that makes you think farmers steal from the govt.

I took these pics on our farm in August, little over 300 acres looks just like this.
A midnight thunderstorm came through and after it was over it cost us 30-40% loss,,, I can tell you, there was/is no govt bailout... loss wasnt great enough for the ins to pay so we just had to eat it, harvest what we could.

me too, i said that in my first response.. i said "maybe i was jelly"...

i wish in the first grade when my teacher asked us what we were gonna be when we grew up, i would have followed up on my statement of being a farmer like my daddy, grandfather, and great grandfather..

I will end my comments at this.
Farming is not like other businesses. Subsidies or not, farming is on the losing end of economics. Farmers do it to feed people. Period. There is a sense of pride that comes with it.

We had about 200 acres of cotton get hit by a storm about 3 days before we were going to pick it. There was about a bale difference between that and what didn't get hit.

Lee, I haven't seen anyone say they hate farmers. Some have a problem with subsidies. I just have a big problem with farmers that poor mouth and their actions don't show it.

That hurts me to see those pictures, I hate it for y'all. I hate it for all of us that PURCHASE food products with money and not some f'n card.. But, what's the difference in looking at those pictures and my balance sheet for the last 6 years?
