I don't get it, either. I know a bunch of elitist, urban folks who have no use for anybody who lives in the country. All they see are tractors, pitchforks, bibles and guns, and none of them work as hard as the farmers I've known. Frankly, I see big cities as parasitic growths. Farmers can live without the cities, but the cities would literally die without farmers feeding them.

I have a bigger problem with energy subsidies than farm subsidies, but i'm not a fan of farm subsidies either.

I love farmers and I have checks written out to them all the time. Then sometimes I really piss them off and they hate me. The ones that try to cheat the system I dont care for. And if I find it I will bust them for sure.

I have a problem with subsidizing private business, so yes. It leans more socialist than I would like. i am strictly a free market guy.

If you subsidize one, do it for everyone. The businesses I owned never had the luxury of welfare. It is what it is.

I can assure you in 08 when Ivan came by and wiped us the frick out there was no govt "bailout"

Most of you people have no clue what you are talking about.

Bailouts, subsides, welfare.

bullshite. If the majority of Americans that couldn't manage to feed themselves died off, it would be a HUGE step forward. Last week proved that.

Merfing this

I love farmers but do have a problem with subsides, all of them, not just the agriculture ones.

yes, that is primarily what i was talking about, ie: "poor mouthing" while at the same time doing all that. the secondary and less pertinent part of my response was concerning "subsidies"... i have mixed emotions on this. i know that a farmer can get wiped out, but so can anyone else that has put his life in his business..
i do know alot of farmers and their actions, including the ones i mentioned concern me.. If you have a great couple of years, why not try and get another year out of that piece of equipment instead of buying another one cause it has more gadgets? Why not let the wife drive her suburban another year instead of getting a new one? in most cases, the farming generation preceding this, certainly was not as frivolous as some of todays farmers.
i'm sure not all farmers are like this,,, and some are not gonna read that statement,,,,,, BUT, alot of the ones I know are like that.
I repeat, I love farmers.

What you described describes our farm and most farms I know around my area. The only ones I know different are those with oil wells, which we don't have.

People just have different political points of view. A century ago, Farmers were attracted to the socialist point of view for this reason and subsidies are a huge part of liberal government.

And you do realize what percentage of the American working people can get new trucks, 150K pieces of equipment, suburbans every two years, vacations, etc. AND still get subsidies as well, right?
I'm gonna back on out of this one, cause i want to still be able to say "I love farmers"...

Yep. I do. I'm not saying subsidies for all. Corporations running hundreds of thousands of acres with next to no risk do not need them.
