mast/hardwood/squirrel question...

i haven't been able to get out and do any looking/scouting. anyone have any info on what mast making trees are producing in north la. this year? is there a good crop of acorns? if so, what kind? beech? hickory?
any info appreciated.

I've seen a lot of pin oak acorns.

Depends on whether you're in the bottoms or in MTU. In the bottoms, I find water oak and overcup to be best. In the ridges, there may be some hickory cutting going on, but Beech is always a good bet early. There may even be some water/laurel/willow oak along the creeks.

I've got several hickory trees spaced around the area I plan on hunting Saturday. Hopefully they will still have a few hickory nuts left in them. If you hit them right, you can shoot several squirrels out of one tree and they won't stop eating.

i plan on going out to Bodcau this sunday and shooting some. just excited about getting out in the woods. might bring some slugs and se if i can bust a hog too.
