This one hurts he was an absolute stud. The drought has been really bad at our place and this is the third dead Nilgai I have found the last 3 months. The good news is we had a bunch of rain and filled all our ponds so they won’t have to go as far to come to the other two ponds we have wells on.
It’s going to take a while for all the grass to come back so hopefully we have a wet spring. I saw a Nilgai Bull the morning we left and it look run down as shite.

I think it’s December to March. Best time to hunt them is October to April when the temps are cooler. They can breed year around like axis but peak season is December-March.
When I say cooler not 105
it’s still pretty damn hot October and November most of the time down there.

Man, that’s terrible. Do you think the mortality is solely because of water? Any other species suffering?

Would think an African animal would be good at sniffin out some water
Nvm theyre Asian not African. Could see how Asia would get plenty of rainfall

There is no grass at all. The deer look poor also but I’m feeding cotton seed so they are starting to look a little better and putting on weight after the rut from December.
The Nilgai are super thin. I don’t remember a time in the last 20 years where we did not have any grass. Everything is dirt.
This is my yard after a couple inches of rain a week ago. Haven’t mowed grass since November. It’s starting to green up a little but going to need some more rain.
