As I stated in my Climate Change thread and was mocked.....it's the weather boys, it ain't DU or DW or farmers in the Midwest or guys in Arkansas flooding their woods.
This year in southern Illinois we had two snows the entire season. One around the third week of November, the other about two weeks ago now.
Furthermore, he is right in regards to the grain being left in the fields. Those farmers up there own and run big operations 5 - 10K acres. They've gone almost completely no till. I seldom see any of them turning dirt after harvest any longer.
Plenty of small factors contribute, but the weather has more to do with it.

Absolutely false. I walk combined grain fields in southern Illinois every year and am always amazed at the amount of grain left over. If you catch it just after a rain or snow melt, you can really see how much of it is left behind.
When I'm looking at a 100 acre cut bean field with 50 deer in it in early January, there's an arse of food left.

Our guide last year started bitching at me because in the course of a couple trips to trailer to get decoys I kicked up over dozen cobs of corn and was shucking and throwing out among decoys.
There's a ton of waste grain.

Don’t y’all realize ducks only rest on lakes. They eat all night and find places to rest during the day. I guess in a clear lake they can spot predators more easily. JS

You either sell Combines or never go to the midwest. There is more grain in a field after harvest than you would ever want to try to feed. Even at 100lbs per acre, thats 10000 pounds (200 sacks) of corn on 100 acres. How many hundred acres are between vicksburg and canada? The weather is the main push, but some of it is food availability.
You gonna drive 10 miles past 3 free burgers, to get a free hotdog?

If it doesn't dump snow regularly (and it stick) from Missouri north starting around November. It will always suck!
