Ruger I haven't shot. Literally the only brand I haven't shot.

I agree. I was pricing guns here in Wyoming for my grandpa. He was looking for a 30-06 or a 270.

Anyway, I go by Walmart to price some. I looked at the ruger and pulled the bolt back and the mother fricker came out. First pull.

Glad you mentioned that. Forgot about that POS. idk if it was that model or rugers in general though.

There's a lot of votes for the ole M1.
That Winchester does things for me as well.
I have shot my uncles 700 a couple of times, but it was made in the 60s or 70s, are the new 700s not as good? Cause his is one sweet arse rifle.

Every Ruger I have ever shot was less then acceptable when it came to accuracy and they always seem to kick like a mule. Literally every one I ever been around, the last thing said was, "well, it should be good enough to kill a deer."

Well, I love them, but I always end up replacing the tigger and the stock. The new BDLs, in my experience have been as good as the old ones. My 700s will shoot half MOA or less, but I also have a lot of money tied up in them. My Brownings will almost shoot with them stock. Take that for what it's worth.

If you hand pick a Garand from one of the armory stores, pick one with little to no muzzle or throat wear, it will be one accurate mofo with the iron sights.

M1 rearmored with National Match sights. practice, practice, practice. then go to Camp Perry and win it all, just like Hathcock.

I have no problem spending Some extra to get one to shoot outta this world. I would probably have to do it anyway, I've gotten a little spoiled with my tack driver .17 here lately. Looks like I'll be headed to cabelas this weekend to go look. Hopefully the blizzard ain't too bad.

If you want to tweak one, then the 700 is really your only answer.

I visited the North Store in Port Clinton Ohio and also.viewed the range for the matches there. Awesome is an understatement. Bought several rifles on that trip.

The 700 is as good as it ever was. They've just broken it down into price points where you can buy one cheaply with a cheap stock.

That's the only problem with them on the low end. I don't like that stock. The new trigger is fricking awesome. You take a stock low end 700 and put a good stock on it. Float it. Bed it. Work up a good handload. And slap some good glass on it and it will outshoot you all day long unless you've got some serious fricking skills. It will also outshoot anything else out there at twice the price.

Never liked the Ruger.

The Winchester is a great hunting rifle. But you aren't going to see many of those worked up to the level you can get a 700 at accuracy wise.

Grew up shooting browning a bolt. Smooth bolt action.

I like the Garand because the dang thing hardly recoils...a follow-through that's smooth as butter.

My oldest boy took his first deer with the ol' M1.

Check out Thompson Center Venture Series too. Seems like a lot of gun for the money. 5R Rifling and garunteed MOA (< 1' groups at 100) right out of the box. Made in Murica.
