Looking for some lumber

Morning guys. I am in need of a few pieces of walnut, oak or any specialty hardwood for a project. I will be in Baton Rouge today and Denham Springs on Saturday. Any places around that may have that?

I don't know about baton Rouge but deano's hardwoods in Lafayette/Broussard has a good selection of exotics.

Good to know for future reference. Thanks

If Sparkplug is in town, I'm sure he will be in here. He has a warehouse in Mandeville full of exotic stuff from Costa Rica. It's a sight to see.

wow, I'd love to see that. I am just making some end grain cutting boards for Christmas gifts.

If you're wanting to venture as far as NOLA, Riverside Lumber has a ton of great domestic hardwood stuff

Also, purple heart was 50% at Woodcraft online but I think that ends today. And I heard paduk will be 50% off in December as well
Also, when it comes to edge grain cutting boards, oak is frowned upon because of its large pores are great for growing bacteria. I don't know if that holds true for end grain.

I've used oak before in an endgrain just for small color changes. I wouldn't make a whole board out of one.
Thanks for the info

That's a good price on that purple heart, but I need at least 1.5" board thickness

How's the pricing and selection over there? Reasonable? I'm thinking about building some stained cabinets for the back bedroom. Most of the wood at the big boxes are crap for staining.

I turned some some old oak that was behind my granddads house into some 16" boards. Not sure what I'm gonna do with them but had fun playing with the planer and table saw

Nice looking oak!
My next toy will be a planer.

You did that without a band saw? Pretty impressive

Yeah. Used the fence on the saw to slowly cut the bark edges. Once I got to core wood I got an edge. Flipped repeated.
Ran through planer then back to the saw for the other 2 sides

Been a fun little project. No idea what I want to do with them but I had a ton of them.

I sold my shop but still have tons of wood.
I also have literally tons of Purple Heart. Getting to it may not be easy, though. What sizes are you looking for, OP?

No kidding.
I've been meaning to get together and kill some cold ones. I've been seeing a girl in your neck of the woods and spend a lot of time in that area now.

I got bored with it and went back to boats. Still selling lumber, though.
Give me a call or text, we can knock a few down.
