A remington 870 or mossberg 500 in 12 or 20 gauge with an 18" barrel and loaded down with buckshot is the ultimate home defense weapon and IMO the ultimate anti-personnel weapon inside of 20 yards.
If you're set on a handgun, I suggest a full sized revolver in .357 magnum. Ruger GP100, Smith and wesson 686, etc. The federal 125gr semi-jacketed hollow point .357 magnum round is considered to be the best personal defense load in any handgun caliber by some "experts."
The only advantage to the handgun over the shotgun is that you can keep it concealed in your vehicle and ready to rock. Pretty hard to conceal a shotgun. If it's never going to leave your bedroom, get a shotgun.

The Judge is probably the very best all around home defense non-long gun since it is a revolver that you can grab, point, and pull the trigger quickly to fire. It can fire a lead bullet or a .410 shot shell and you won't miss what you want to hit if you have just a split second to fire. Good Luck and .....

Nothing makes me gag like somebody saying you don't have to aim a shotgun

I'm not sure what I do with a shotgun. I just shoot what I'm looking at

Since I really don't see much information regarding prices online, what is a good price for one brand new? Since most places can't sell online, I assume that is why there are isn't much info on prices.

You aim? I just kinda shoot when I feel like I'm pointing at what I'm looking at

Are you still going with a gangster pistol to shoot sideways, or have you been converted to the other side? The side of destroying all of the insurgents with buckshot.
