I bought the Cannon 64 gun safe from Tractor Supply back in January. Regular price was $999 and I paid $699 for it. With taxes and delivery charge, it was about $950. It has a 1 hour fire protection rating at 1300 degrees. The only way you will be able to get 60 guns in the safe it about 40 of them will need to be hand guns, but I only have about 15 guns so it works for me. I went with the biggest safe I could get into the space because I have my ammo stored in there while not an arsenal I can defend myself for awhile, plus my wife keeps her jewelry and important documents and still have plenty of room to spare. I believe tractor supply is putting the 64 gun safe on sale for 799 for Memorial Day.

I used some of the super slider furniture movers and some old carpet and rugs so I didn't mess up the hardwood floors and me and one other guy had it in about 15 minutes, but I live in a one story ranch style house.

Keep a check around the major holidays and they will price them that way. That's wasn't the first time I had seen the 64 at the price. Academy will occasionally do it but not as often as TS.

Those cannons have a bare interior compared to others I saw today. Damn near bare wood. But the price is right.. guess it wouldn't be too hard to pad the shelves a little

mine came with the shelving and gun racks in the safe I just had to adjust the shelves to what I wanted. Also has the door organizer in it as well. I did have to make a box to sit my AR and my 10/22 on because they were not long enough to line up with the rifle rack.

ETA: my reading comprehension wasn't there. Yeah the felt isn't the best, but it has not been an issue yet.

Those with canon safes... is there a key backup in case the keypad dies? I looked at 20-30 safes today and they allllll had digital locks.

I'm starting to accumulate quite a bit of firearms. What the best safe that's toughest to get into?

Really not much difference in a liberty, cannon, browning, or any other of the box store safes, they are designed to discourage garden variety burglers. Where you put it, how you secure it, and what access you leave for doors and sides will determine how secure it is moreso than which manufacturer.

If you leave it where a pry bar can be inserted in a door and the safes weight used as leverage they can all be opened in less than two min by the right person, the back is normally a weak spot as well.

There are some that are difficult to defeat but they are pricey

There is not a box store gun safe that cant be broken into in less than a minute. Cannon, Browning, Remington..etc. True fact. If you serious about a safe, real ones start about 3k and go up from there. On another note. Insurances like state farm, farm bureau, all state and so forth no longer underwrite those types of safes either. has to meet certain criteria. Neighbor found that out some time back when his 64 gun Cannon was underwritten and they canceled the policy because it no linger met standards. he looked into it more and all insurance companies had done the same. No different in safety than having a glass fron gun cabinet in there eyes. And the UL fire ratings are all garbage and none of them truly brought more than about 30minutes before heat levels got to high.

Yes,

I don't mean to discourage you from any of the ones mentioned above just want you to be aware that you don't have Fort Knox in your bedroom closet.

What you need to do is make it inconvenient and time consuming to attack the safe by where you place it and how you secure it more so than which brand is better.

Always remember if two guys can easily put it in place two guys can easily just carry it right back out the door, and they don't care if the floor gets scratched.

What I am trying to say is more safes get stolen than breached in robberies.

In reality most safes do their job just by looking intimidating and the folks that are skilled in opening safes are not out committing random burglaries.

My oldest boy just turned six. I think it's time not to have guns unsecured in the house. How difficult is it to move a 64 cannon. I would be wanting it in my basement. It's 17 stairs and a straight shot down.

No way to answer that, depends on how you attempt to do it.

I would probably build two "rails" from 2x4's and slide it down the stairs on them, if you have a good anchor point for a rope at the top of the stairs you could do it alone.

One man can drag a 700lb safe around with ease using a blanket on a wood floor.

Appreciate all the info, fellas. I ended up going with the cannon 42 from tractor supply. It was on sale for $599.

Now I need to build a platform for my AR's and AK's to sit on. I wish the gun rack was adjustable.
