Sorry but if you are spending over $1500 it shouldn't be on a vortex. Don't get me wrong they are a quality optic but once you get into that price range they start liking behind. In the 2K plus price range they wouldn't even make my top 5.

I use what the pros use & I also do my research before buying. When snipershide.com comes back up after maintenance I would suggest looking at the scope killer thread on optics. It compares tracking on scopes. You may want to reconsider your top 5 after reading that thread and watching the videos. I believe the thread and testing were done by username killswitch for your reference if you are interested.

I guess what I am asking is what size target are you shooting at 1000 yards?

My range has upper body sized torso & head steel targets.

I would also suggest talking with Chris at interstate guns/sport optics in Hammond their knowledge is unsurpassed in scopes and optics. If you ever pass through there you can put your hands on anything listed in this thread and even more high dollar stuff
I would encourage a situation like this for sure. Especially with the coin your about to drop on a scope. I'll take a bit of customer service and some hands on over price "most days;)"
I also read a lot of good info in the other post:
"rings" I agree don't skimp there.
"Price per round" can be a big deal.
"Recoil" that 338 will let you know you live:)
"Budget" like one of the posters said if you are in 1500 -2000 dollar range his top 5 wouldn't include certain brand names. I don't disagree. There are a lot of great quality scopes out there to choose from, don't move to quick on a purchase and shop around.
"Reviews" be careful when reading them. I especially love the ones that say this thing is great haven't mounted it or shot it "looks awesome it's the best deal going.

Take the things I've said with a grain of salt. I'm just an old dumb bastard anyway. I tend to lean on experience of others so I would desperately try to find a long range shooter I could shake hands with and pic their brain to no end. Best of success
