Depends on what shape he is in. My dad is 67 and still climbs no problem.

What about one of the new saddle stands?

Those are apparently the new thing as far as lightweight, packable stands

I strictly run and gun hunt now. I've got multiple set ups depending on the situation. For the money its going to be hard to beat a Lone Wolf Alpha and either API Hunt'n sticks or Hawk Helium sticks. Be forewarned though the Hawks don't pack well. I've got sticks from LW, Hawk, and API. The API ones are what I always grab. $79 shipped form Cabelas or Basspro for 3 of them. I bought two packs so that I could cut my sticks down to 24" long and just have 2 steps on them. They're perfect for me. Also if you will use code 9FC50 that'll take off $50 from any Lone Wolf purchase over $199 on their site. The lightest set up you're going to find being made right now in a stand is either the LW Assault or Millennium M7 (btw Millennium lies like hell on their stand weights)their 8.5lb M7 actually weighs around 10.5-11 once you add the bracket you need to hang it. The Assaults are the easiest to hang by far
The setups I have are
LW Alpha with 4 LW sticks
Older LW Assault(the 8.5lb version)with 4 LW sticks
Millennium M7 with 5 API sticks shortened to 24"
Millennium M60U with 4 Hawk Helium sticks
The most fun and comfortable to hunt out of is by far the M60U
The lightest and easiest for going a long way in is the older Assault
Sticks are a personal preference. Lone Wolf, API, XOP, Hawk, Muddy all make good sticks. I rarely use the LW's anymore because I prefer to have double steps. It makes it a ton easier when hanging the stand. Also make you a good lineman's belt using the ropeman 1 ascender. Its a game changer. Part of the fun is figuring out the right set up for you and modding it to fit your needs. I rope mod all my sticks as well to lighten them up. Next summer's project is going to be fitting that M7 seat onto my older LW Assault stand. That'll be the perfect lock on IMHO

Watch The Hunting Public, they use a harness where you hang on the tree

Anybody know the diameter rope of the linemans belt on a Muddy harness? The rope man 1 will accept 8-13mm. Would like to go that route as well to eliminate the prussic knot

I doubt it is less than 8mm. Either way, you can buy 10-11mm static line from rei, backcountry, or other mountaineering stores for cheap. I make my own tethers, lineman's rope, etc. from that stuff. Honestly, I trust the static line from those places more than I trust the ropes that come with treestands. When it says 25kN on it, I know I aint gonna break it.

If I'm not bad mistaken my Ropeman 1 says 10-13mm. I used either 10.5 or 11mm for my linemans belt set up with a couple aluminum screwlock carabiners and the Ropeman 1. I think 8mm is too small. I do use 8mm accessory cord for rope modding my climbing sticks though

thanks guys

Yeah, I rope modded one set of my LW sticks. I still prefer to pack my Muddy ones, though. I prefer the double step.

Check out Old Cypress stands. I have one with a set of hawk helium sticks and it is a super lightweight combo. Old cypress also makes their own sticks. Been very impressed with the weight and quality of the stands

This.

buy 8-11 rope from Backcountry.com. Use Active Junky.com for a 10% cash back discount, plus backcountry.com is always having sales (including right now).

Buy a black diamond caribiner

Buy a Rope Man 1 (not 2), which you already have.

My setup is exactly like the picture below your post

I have several permanent setups, but I use exclusively two setups for mobile hunting.

1) Lone Wolf Alpha + LW Climbing Sticks.

2) Tethrd Saddle + Predator Platform + 3-4 Hunting Beast Climbing Sticks.

If you can get your hands on some hunting beast climbing sticks, I highly recommend them. I like the LW stand a lot, but I can hunt the frick out of that tree saddle

Dan's sticks are expensive as hell, aren't they? And sold per each, not in a set?

I have a brand new in the box Leverage hang on stand with Back straps, light weight and a better more stable stand than LoneWolf.

You can buy this for $80 if you pay to ship it? Light so not much.

Not sure how to connect with you but seems this is what you want?

Yep. Like 80 per stick.

But they have double sided steps, and when you put them on your pack you understand. They are featherweight. I've carried farts up a hill that weigh me down more.

You get those and a tree saddle and you are carrying like 5-6 lbs. total.

Makes it like sitting on titties. Best $40 you'll ever spend on a tree stand
Fits the Alpha's and Assault seats perfectly
