I agree but I do think spinning wings can be effective on a clear sunny day. If it's overcast I never use them. Movement on the water is the most important imo.

In the marsh, mostly grays and teal. Have virtually no mallards so color isnt that big a deal. Spread in small groups. Did try flicker flock this year and grays and teal loved it. Like night and day over reg spinner. Didnt put a spinner out once this year.
Rice field use spread of mallards, pins, teal and grays. Some full body geese in drier areas. Fyi geese hate spinners.

I literally didn't change the batteries all year in my flock flickers. I used 2 or 3 at a time. Big fan. Fit in my blind bag and are a fraction of the PITA of a giant mojo.

No. Batteries last a while. Only pblm i had was the brackish marsh. If i didnt take em out and dry em out and put a little reel oil on the shaft they would rust up. Itherwise. I could fit all 6 in an old blind bag. Very pleased with em

Decoys isn't something I have found requires a lot of thought in the marsh.

I use 3-6 dozen of a complete mix of whatever comes out of the bag some with no paint some with paint, mallards, grays, teal you name it doesn't matter to me. Leave a spot in the decoys for them to land and its all good.

The only things I know I like in a spread are the following:
a lot of white, i.e. weidgon, pintail, smilin' mallards.

I find the mojo works wonders in the marsh unless it's a year with very few young birds then it flares them. I almost always use one unless I see them flaring. Even if hunting with hand carved decoys I use a mojo which feels odd as hell, but hey it works, I'm not there for what feels right I'm duck hunting to kill birds.

Good to know. I saw how many it took to run them and was worried about how much I'd spend in upkeep.

Good to know on marsh because I'm often in the same

Sounds like flock flickers need to be on my short list along with a motorized feeder butt decoy.

I like the look and action of the G&H navigator butt decoys. Anyone have experience with them? I'm thinking either the sprig or Canada goose version.

I am no great duck hunter by any means
(I do not carry hen decoys at all)
I'm guessing you only use your drake whistle as well while your hunting. It would seem pretty silly to use your duck call with a spread full of drakes. Just my opinion

Nah. I don't think it matters much on this front. Hens blend in so well that ducks likely have difficulty finding them normally anyway even if they do hear them.

Just enough flash but not too overhwelming.

I used mine on about 6 hunts no battery problems.
