Lease Checkin Process?

What is the best or normal, if there is such a thing, for a piece of land/water where there are many people who have lawful access to it, but because of that, many people trespass, because nobody knows who is lawful or not?

I’ve been a part of a camp that uses groupme to check in, not a big fan of that. People forget to check out all of the time. There are other online apps like Virtual Sign In Board (VSIB) that allow you to check in, and reminds you at a set time if you haven’t checked out. VSIB also has a map that shows wind direction and areas where other hunters are checked in. It’s convenient and nice from a safety point of view since others can log-in and see if someone hasn’t checked out.

We use VSIB at our club. It works well.

Our camp is 6000 acres and accessible mostly by private roads, but access by trespassers is possible. It's not much of a problem in deer season because there's always people around both in our camp and adjacent camps and you'd have to be a lunatic to try, but during turkey season it's an issue, especially in the last 5 years with the explosion in popularity of turkey hunting and a turkey hunter's propensity to poach.
Because of that, we're probably about to go back to having a sticker/ hanging card that everyone has to have on their vehicle at all times while on the lease. Cheap, simple for the old timers and effective.

This is what the treasurer of our LLC suggested. If you don't have the placard, even if you are legal and just forgot it, you will need to explain that to the cops/judge.

You think a cop / game warden will cite someone for trespassing - who has right to be there - solely because they didn’t have a parking tag? Let me know how that works for you.

I'm not interested in prosecuting people who have a right to be there. Are you not following the logic here?

Dude, you not me, said “ If you don't have the placard, even if you are legal and just forgot it, you will need to explain that to the cops/judge”
Explain to me how a cop/judge would be involved if y’all aren’t filing a complaint??

Don't have a placard, cops called. How confusing is this for you?

Like I said, let me know how that works out for you. Won’t ever get to a judge as the cops will tell you to never call them again first time they have to come out for a lease member you reported for no tag.

We use VSIB. Overall it is good. The only time it was not was when Verizon cellular internet went down one afternoon and I could not sign in from my phone. It is much more convenient than a central sign in board. The other bad thing about a central sign in board that is easily accessible is that if a trespasser knows about it, they can use it to know what areas are open and which ones to steer clear of. The idea of a tag or window decal makes your vehicle a target for thieves looking for guns. I forget how much VSIB is per year, but I bet I save that much per year in gas not having to drive out of the way to a sign in board before and after every hunt.

This is silly. Thieves are thieves and they look for things to steal whether there’s a decal or whatever. For the older guys this is a low cost and less complicated solution that works. I love the VSIB but half the folks we deal with can barely use a flip phone.

Putting something on your vehicle that says there is probably a gun inside the vehicle absolutely makes it a more attractive target to thieves.

The decal or hang tag or whatever doesn’t have to be something that explicitly tells anyone who isn’t in the know what it means. Really isn’t complicated. I stand by my statement this is just a silly argument.

have all the members go to a central location to check in, sign a log, put a tac on the map where they are, etc......Or a club tag or sticker or something.
