Definitely what Boot and East said. If you have the patience, demo the area and spray any new torp growth you see. Sometimes it's best to leave those areas un sodded for weeks or months if you can stand it. The torpedo roots have ton of carb storage and can live underground without any leaf flush for a loooong time

I just cut my yard today. My entire back yard is almost full of it and it was hell with the past month of raining and not being able to cut

I'd kill it and re-sod, but the entire reason I have it is bc my neighbors dirt or sod was full of it and it crept over to my yard....so re-sodding is pointless

We have used the plastic barrier that is made to stop running bamboo and it works pretty well. Digging the trench and backfilling it without it folding over is a pain but is doable.

I finished building 1 year ago and put in St Aug and just noticed that I have torpedoed grass taking over about 15% of my yard. I haven't noticed it before because my grass cutters keep the grass low. How did I get this crap? I'm assuming my builder used river sand when he leveled my yard prior to the grass being put down. Any chance my builder or the company that put down the grass should be responsible for this?

I'm not sure what torpedo grass is. Did a search e were several different types of grass that came up and some I knew were not torpedo. If someone could post a pic I'd appreciate it.

About half my back yard is low lying and holds moisture. This shite has completely taken over. I have to cut on my highest setting. I am planning on doing option #1 this winter.

I started a thread the other day about starting fresh in my back yard. Planning on killing, tilling, leveling and either sodding or plugging.

The binomial name for Torpedograss is Panicum repens.
Here is some more info on the herpes of grasses!
It's incredibly difficult to control because of the amount of energy stored in the rhizomes. Even small infestations usually require several treatments due to re-sprouting.
Good luck!

I did the round up followed by zoysia, it's still there or back. Mostly where I edge and near the garden bed. I didn't nuke the garden and neighbors have it so it blows into edgeline. I actually just spot sprayed areas with drive xlr but that won't work for st aug. My backyard I let be and it's a mix of all southern turf grasses and torpedo. Wish I would of totally redone back too. Using mulching mower in rear and then cutting torpedo free grass probably taints it.

Anyways, had a customer tell me he uses fusilade 2 and it knocks it back without damaging the st aug.

Has anyone tried this? He lives in Gabriel and that whole development for most part is over run with the stuff. Thats a game changer if it works.

You want the aids of lawn care it's called Virginia button weed. You dang near can't kill it. I have hit it with round up and MSMA multiple times this year and it keeps coming back stronger.

The torpedo doesn't spead by seed. Only from rhizome segments in soil/sand amendments or runners from established torpedograss

You can spray it and kill most it it, but it will regrow from just a small piece of the root. Only way to get it out and keep it out is to get the roots out. Been fighting it for 25 years. Hard to completely eradicate when the nextdoor neighbors don't give a sheet and it comes back over and over from their adjacent lawn. Stuff spreads laterally by rhizomes about 12-18 inches underground.
