fishgetter- all the names should show up regardless if you turn the water feature off. on my Lowrance this isn't an issue.

the names of bayous and lakes show up thru the imagery. unless you turn them off on the unit. as for downloading them it works you just gotta mess with the setting creating the map

Would that setting be in SAS or the other software?

Sloopy, The names are there from the base map that is loaded on your unit. Atleast mine are, but the under chart menu you can either select or de-select what items you want to see overlay on the screen. I do not want to see the water shaded blue on mine as a lot of times it is not accurate in the marsh. That’s why the satellite imagery is so much better. But I can’t figure out how to get rid of the water shading and keep the names on my particular unit which is Simrad go series.

WhoDat- when I get home I’m gonna select all the options and try it again and see if I can get it to work. But what I know for sure is when I unselect water the names and the water disappear! When I re-select it, it all comes back up. I tried calling Simrad for tech support but after about 20 min with a regular tech they forwarded me to a senior tech and I was placed on hold for about 45 min before I had to roll so I hung up.

When you figure that out I’d be interested to know as I may buy a GO series this week.

I have only had mine for a couple months but I love it. I like having the total scan ducer structure scan and chirp all in one. I also like being able to link it to my phone or iPad to take a quick look no mater where I am on the boat. It also has alot of stuff I’ll never use. Haha

Well after trying everything I could think of I Still couldn’t get it to work. I guess I’ll call Simrad again in the morning and see what the “senior tech” has to say.

When you go on to make another resolution do you delete the previous zoom levels? Ex: Resolution 128 is z10-z12, but when you go to resolution 64 do you leave the previous z10-z12 in the build box and add z11-z13 or should you delete the previous zoom levels before building the next resolution?

This is what pickle and who dat recommended and it works great. You need to do zoom level 19. Set your resolution 2 - 16 and save that in a folder. Then do a map for zoom 15 and resolution 36-512 and save it in a different folder. Next edit the final file names so you dont have two of the same named files. Then put both files in a folder and name it shaded relief. Did that answer your question?

Sloopy when for example you build a cache of z12,z13,z14 with a resolution of 32. After it finishes you have to take those bound at5 flies out of the folder into a separate folder with the other bound files. Then you go z13-16 and increase your resolution and repeat bound files. Make sense?

And yes you delete the previous zoom levels and add the new ones. Delete 13,14,15 and add 14,15,16 for example

That is what I did thanks. Now I just need to pop the card in a unit to see if I made it correctly.

Simrad customer service update. On Monday after 30 min of troubleshooting with the guy who had Indian accent named Mark said he would forward me to a “senior tech” was placed on hold for 1:15 couldn’t wait any longer had to hang up.
Tuesday I called went through the same troubleshooting BS because the first guy didnt make a case # and failed to put me In the system. Then this guy named George with an Indian accent said he would forward me to a senior tech. After 1:45 I had to roll so I hung up. Called back later and asked for supervisor had no luck and was given an email address to contact that is supposedly only for senior techs. Emailed them yesterday around lunch received automated reply and still ok response yet. WTH I love the Simrad unit so far but this is ridiculous customer support thus far. Anybody know any direct pipelines to Simrad or Lowrance techs?

Fish, thanks for keeping us updated. I was going to start working on mine this weekend, but having second thoughts. I have your kind of luck with tech.

Hey fellas, I just so happened to e linked this post by a friend and I have been following it for a few days and decided to join the group.
This is a very informative post and I just wanted to drop in and say I appreciate the information. I have a new Simrad Go 9 that I'm going to try to give this method a go.

It is definitely a long winded post! But if I wouldn’t have had the support of these guys it would have been way harder! I tried to post every problem I had not only for advice but because when I would run into problems, I would search for answers before posting on here and I usually couldn’t find the answers I needed. So I hoped others could find there answers on this thread.

Shad you should start Sooner rather than later. It can be a long process until you get all the bugs worked out and figure out exactly what you need to do. Downloading tiles and converting them in map creator can take a while depending on how large of an area your doing.

I have another question for the seasoned map builders- once I have created my map and moved the files to my card, can I just download areas I didn’t download before to add to it or do I have to create a whole new map? Also I found some tiles I downloaded with some bad sun reflection, can I download new tiles for those specific spots and replace them or have to make a new map?
