Ive hunted my whole life.. everything mississippi has to offer. But due to me loving fishing this time of year, and not really having a place that ever hele birds, i just never got into it. Well this year due to corona, ive had alot more time off, and had a few birds on camera so i decided i was going to try for my first. Over the past 2 weeks my buddy has been helping me learn the turkey ropes, i have chased this guy around on several different occasions and he got the best of me. This afternoon we went to see if we could roost him, and he was already in the middle of the field with 2 jakes at 100 yds. We immediately sit down right where we stood, and my buddy did a couple yelps and they came in on a rope. Busted him at 30yds with 3 1/2 tss ammo and he dropped.. shot at 5:30pm.. from time we got out of truck, walked to field, and shot.. 20min hunt lol. Such a rush.. i see why its addictive now..... also my buddy pictured below has one leg, due to hunting accident. Fell 30 feet getting down from the stand when the ratchet popped on the lock on. Lucky to be alive, great guy.. couldnt have done it without him.

First off nice turkey and congratulations. Now as to your buddy being 30’ up in a tree. I would say he is truly blessed to be able to walk much less be alive after falling 30’. I don’t think most people realize how high that actually is until you are that high looking down.

Thanks everyone

And as far as my buddy.. we all learned a hard lesson that day. I chain all my stands now, and swap ratchets every year. He has lifelines on all his now.. he is very fortunate, was falling backwards woulda landed on back/neck/head. And just before he hit ground he hit an oak limb and it threw him forward n leg hit feet first. Bone exploded. Tried to keep leg for 7 months, kept getting infected and never would heal. Dr gave him 2 options, bone graft which was 50/50 of taking, and if it did it would take 12 months... other options was taking leg off right below knee.. dr said he would be back on his feet in a month. He said well dove season is sept 1, i dont have 12 months, and they cut leg off next week.... he was n dove field opening day lol

Nice, congrats! Turkey hunting really is a frickin’ blast.

I feel like I’m seeing a lot more newcomers to Turkey Hunting. Someone needs to run the numbers on how many more turkeys have died this year due indirectly to Coronavirus.

man congrats, I was planning on trying to do a little turkey hunting this year and just never made time for it. I do have a few birds on camera and my brother left this morning to go give them a try with a buddy of his that knows what going on. I will let you know if they get lucky

Know exactly how high it was. I helped put the 3 10ft sections of ladders up to the lock on. Had he not hit the limb about 10ft from ground, he would be dead

Congrats on the bird! Some make it look easy but killing an old mature Tom is a tough task.
