How much will the 28" barrel cost me? Bought primarily for HD. Also on the search for a handgun, but to prevent this thread from turning into every other handgun thread, I won't say which handgun I'm looking for.

These will be my first 2 guns, and once I start shooting some, who knows...might get into that skeet shooting thing after all.

Does anyone have a preference on which size buckshot to get for HD? Or is this another 9 mm vs .40 vs .45 type of argument where there really is no wrong answer?

I think it's around $150. I'm sure you can find one used for cheaper but if you get a new one you might as well just get another used shotgun for that price.

#2 is best.
#4 is too small.

Look on eBay. There's some used ones for $50. There's a "poor outside condition" one for $29

Short version.
quote:

The 12 gauge shotgun is the most devastating and lethal weapon yet devised for inflicting rack and ruin at close range. A safe bet for ammunition selection is to use the 2-3/4-inch 00 buckshot load. The impact of one of these shot shells is essentially equivalent to getting hit with a nine round burst from a submachine gun.

It is probably a good idea to avoid the 2-3/4- and 3-inch "Magnum" loads. Their brutal recoil makes them a bad choice, and little is gained over the stopping power of standard rounds. Control is important, and follow up shots may be necessary. Standard 12 gauge shotgun shells produce plenty of punishing recoil already.

Some shooters prefer #4 or #1 buckshot over 00 buck. Real world one shot stopping success of the #4 buck is a respectable 81-83%. Data hasn't been collected for the #1 buck, but its performance should be even better.

Will do man. Have a flashlight attatchment on my AR and a lazer crosshair on it. Probably going to put a better scope on the AR and just use the lazer sight for the shotgun.

So basically I have everything to make it or in the mail. The only thing left is to find out which stock I want and get that.

It wouldn't hurt to get the $30 barrel and see if that's something you want. If/when you decide to get a better one then you can just sell it and get one you like. I doubt you'll be in any competitions soon.

Just clean it really well and it won't affect the gun.

Got the rail system in the mail today. But I can't install it until I get the frickin tube extension that I ordered the day before. Now I have to wait until Monday.

Here's what it looks like with it half assed on though.

Cabela's 00 Buck is 3.99 for 5 rounds. It's2.3/4. Shoots pretty good and the price is ok. 10 boxes per visit limit.

Look a couple posts up. It's just a rail system made by black aces. All the other things are singular addons.

Unless I read an old article, black aces makes the only rail mounting system for these tactical mossbergs. The tube extension, stock, and sights/lights are all separate. I already have a red dot sight and a flashlight mount I can put on it back home. Just waiting on the tube extension for it and I'll be able to assemble the damn thing.

After that, the only thing I'll need is the pistol grip stock. I'll probably have to wait until fathers day for it bc I've been spending top much on weapons lately.

That's the rail system. The picture is actually of the one for the 500. The 930 just has 4 bolt holes in the back instead of 2. You can find them on eBay from 150-180. It's all metal which I like despite it being a tad heavier.
