In the same tree I hunted yesterday evening. Got a scrape 30 yards west of me, and a feed tree about 75 yards to the southwest. Looking for a mature buck, but I’ll gladly take a doe. Freezers looking pretty bad right now.

Made it into the blind for 3:30, so I’ll join y’all for a spell.

Leake County
A balmy 50*, no wind
Box blind at the corner of two of our main roads
.270 Winchester

Cameras showed some morning activity, including a buck is never seen before. He is a youngest with good potential, this last weekend will magnify my season long struggle. For a number of years, I’ve passed on young bucks with potential (needs another year), but this is likely the last year of the best of all situations, having had 1000 family owned acres that I’m almost the only hunter on. Cuz is going to actively market it after the season, so I’m probably done. I want one more for the freezer, so young bucks and does with twins that have been having protected status might not over the next couple of days.

Area 6
53° with a little breeze that feels great because I wore too many layers. Got cold yesterday evening, so added a layer today and got warm getting set up.

Moved to a different wma midday. I hunted here during rifle and primitive but went back to my usual one for bow. Decided to give that area a rest after not seeing anything yesterday evening or this morning. I got picked off twice in here during primitive, so I’m about 30ft up today. My 30ft bow rope is tied to my saddle, and doesn’t touch the ground. No way I get picked off this evening lol

That sucks man, sorry to hear it. At least you got to enjoy something like that for a while though. I’ve hunted public land my whole life, and would kill for a place like that, for even a year or 2. I’ve heard there’s some real good deer to be killed on MS public. I’d give it a try when your place gets sold. I’ve never hunted MS public, but I plan to start making some trips probably next year. I’d be down to link up and figure some stuff out together, if you want.
