At our first house the wife tried to be nice and cut the grass... Well she's allergic to grass. Almost had to go to the er.

Sometimes that woman is just not bright.

Anybody owned cordless(battery) powered weed eater/trimmer? I need one for edging and weed eating around the house and sidewalk. Any recommendations on voltage? 20-24-40-54?

Get the $129 Ryobi at Home Depot with the 18V 4ah battery pack. If you are on a normal subdividion type lot it's all you will ever need. Don't bother buying the ones with the 1.3ah battery pack. Those batteries suck. Throw in the matching blower and I've not used my Toro trimmer and Sthil blower in 2 years.

In the same store, move over 10 ft to the Echo section.

You'll never buy another week eater.

Have had one for over 5 years without a problem. The people that say they are shite are probably the same ones using old gas clogging the carb.

I had one of the earliest Ryobi combo setups and one of their 4-stoke setups. Neither made more than a few seasons. My Echo blower is nearing its 16th season and still runs. My Stihl trimmer is on its 5th season and starts and runs like new. I am meticulous about maintenance too.

I usually get 3-4 years out of one with no maintenance at all. My current one is going on 6 years. I work them hard too. I have an edger, straight shaft trimmer with gator string attachment, hedge trimmer, and blower attachment that all get used weekly March through October. I also have a tiller, brush cutter, and pole saw that get heavy use at least weekends out of the year. Lots of applied torque on the motor with the tiller and pole saw.

What I like best is they are lighter than the more durable well known brands. I do remove the bump line advance spools though.

For what? I have the same thing and some of those attachments and the only thing I hate is the weed eater head.

I've owned a royobi weed eater for about 10 years with no problems. I also owns royobi drill that sees like 1000 hours of continuous use every year. It too, has had zero problems. They aren't the best, but they work.

I put one of those on mine. You can get replacement blades, but a set lasts a while. I use mine to cut weeds, monkey grass, small brush, and a ton of other stuff.

buddy had one for a year...worked fine...went to start it up the next year and no matter what he did he couldn't keep it running and was going to put it out by the road...
I had him bring it to me and cleaned the crap out of the carb and put an actual air filter on it and never looked back...
I only edge with it though...my Echo 225 eats up anything for weedeating...

oh...he was using ethanol gas and I don't use ethanol gas in anything I run except my trucks...

For 50 bucks what do you have to lose?
But for the money my straight shaft Stihl gets the job done.
