If you're cork fishing, yeah it doesn't matter very much. But let's say you're jigging the tressles where the trout mostly just hit and spit, you want to be able to feel the slightest hit. That's the benefit to the more expensive rods. That, plus, I've had a berkely break midfight with a red for me, my falcon's, st croixs, etc. have outlasted that rod and caught more fish by a factor of 5. So that's another reason to splurge.

I agree with you there. I guess I should have mentioned that I use several different falcons as well as some cheap H20 express inshores. The falcons are better obviously, but I like extra rods and don’t have to worry about buddy’s using them. I was mainly talking about spending money in excess on rods (~$200). I should have just said I like my falcon coastals and kept my mouth shut

Oh for sure. I think a fitzgerald is about the highest end I'll go. Once you get over $200 the trade off is not there, it's not that much more sensitive and it's definitely not more durable.

I was on the Old 18 bandwagon until they got big. They've doubled their prices in the last year and quit making the Aerius line. Too bad, I really liked their Rods.

Gear is all personal choice. The big factor with higher end rods is better components. Things like reel seats, rod eyes, etc... Also higher price material and methods used to build rod blank.

I have only ever bought one "inshore" rod. I prefer my bass stuff and just go down one notch for trout and MH for reds. When I know we are targeting flounder, I use the spinning stuff I bought early on for white perch that ended up being a tiny bit too heavy for that.

I like falcon Buco or HD just because the Fuji guides and they are decent rods. I do have a few lowriders and the blanks are not as durable with the Fuji K guides.

When I build my own I have Rainshadow blanks and a few MHX’s. I built those with CRB guides. It was hard to find what I wanted over the counter and these fill a void.

I have a few nice older original Allstars, I put new guides on as they were close to 25 yrs old.

If you fish plastics all of your money should be in your rod. Outside of a custom builder, Waterloo is probably your best bet.

I'm with the other poster on the Falcon Rods. They're the sweet spot for me, in terms of quality and price. I fish artificial A LOT and like these, but agree you can tell the difference with some higher end rods.

I always seem to invent new ways to break rods (4 this year), so I always buy rods from Academy. No questions asked on exchanges for broken ones.

My friends took care of my old AllStars for me. This is why I have my rods and rods for friends. My friends have learned that I bite.

American Legacy has some G Loomis Pro Green and Greenwater rods on sale for around $200, usually $300. They also have an additional 15% off on sale items intil the 17th with code SALE15, which would drop them to around $170, depending on model.

I have an old Falcon Coastal like that. Back when you could buy a rod in Academy that was actually built in Texas and not China.

In general, I like Dobyns and Falcon for a combination of sensitivity, price and quality.

If I had to pick a rod series, it would be a Dobyns Sierra followed by Falcon.
