Looking to get an inflatablePFD and looking for recs. I have an older Onyx one, but have seen some specials lately on other brands. Any recommendations or specials/deals
would be appreciated.

Eh, what’s so good about the Mustang ones?

I don’t mind spending money for a quality product but seems that some of the inflatable pfd’s on the market are hugely marked up. They seem to be fairly simple devices that all have to have the same certification.

Currently have a cheap Bass pro brand one that’s worked fine for me.

It all depends on what kind you get. Most infl pfd use a halkey Robertson inflator which utilizes a bobbin. Once submerged the material in the bobbin dissolves which inflates the jackets. These are cheaper and can be rearmed fairly easily. That being said some say they are prone to false inflation. Mustangs top of the line jacket uses their HIT technology which is essentially a hydrostatic release. It has to reach a certain depth then it inflates. Generally you bring these to an authorized dealer to get rearmed and they are more expensive. You also have to factor in do you want just a manual jacket or a manual/auto.

I sell life jackets and dreams for a living.

Also mustang is the only company I know that’s had recalls on their inflatables.

Magellan from Academy. Cheap and rated the same as those high priced ones. Kind of like the Yeti brand versus all those other cheaper brands that work just as well.

Which is the most comfortable?

ie: Just bought a whitewater PFD last week and the advancements in comfort plus new features was surprising. Been 10+ years and lots of improvements.

for what it's worth...and depends on the type of usage...

my Onyx auto inflate PFD is ~ $100 - $120 with the re-arm kit $25

Mustang 28 is $300 with the re-arm kit $100...

both need to be re-armed at the replace by date on the device or once a year...

They all have the same safety rating and certification. You go ahead and buy one for $200 or more. The one for $80 at Academy will work just as well.
