Here's mine compared to a griffon. Notice the difference in the coat. Again, Not really sure the difference in drive or temperament

My GWP

Wirehair Griffon

It's all in their DNA, BUT it does take exposure and training to hone in those natural abilities and skills. Just a couple days of bird work with mine this spring brought out a side of him that I had never seen before.

Some GSP like to retrieve, some don't, you can look to their parents to have an idea how they will be but it is not guaranteed. Hunting (pointing) instinct is almost guaranteed to be there, dog with strong hunting pedigrees are going to have a much higher probability of being a very intelligent dog.

Griffons have a MUCH different temperament than a GSP. They're meant to hunt in close. They're driven, but they're almost more lab like than a GSP. I worked for Sierra Trading Post in Cheyenne for years, and the owners bred field trial GSPs who hung out in the offices all day long. They had pretty weird personalities in my opinion. Very high energy and driven, but interact with humans kind of like a cat... on their own terms. Griffons that I've been around seemed much more affectionate and enjoyed people more than the GSPs I've been around.

That is not a typical GSP, normally they are very attached and affectionate with humans, I wonder what line those dogs were from...

It's Prairie Wind Kennels in Cheyenne. Keith and Bobbi Richardson are the owners of Sierra Trading Post and of those kennels.

The dogs were fine.. I mean they weren't mean or anything. They just kind of trotted around the offices on a mission and tended to stay with whoever their owner was. Occasionally they'd walk over to you at your desk and kind of want to be petted, then they'd trot off again on like they were on a mission.

Think braerwood out of Shreveport has a litter right now. Some FYI on her.... she will interview/vet you before selling you a pup. Her dogs hunt and show... she may have "pet quality" pups available. She has a website with a puppy form you can fill out.

I have one of hers.... he is an a-hole, but my wife loves him. Super intelligent, very active and loves to run. Like wic's he likes to get chased.... never gets caught b/c he is either too fast or they give up. He will put in a 5k with me, come in grab some water then grab a toy to be thrown. He is a good dog, not annoying at all.... well most of the time.

Not sure about wic's but they are notorious for wanting to be under covers. Mine loves that shite.

The owners are really great people. I wrote copy for the catalog for a few years before moving back home to Arkansas. I got an additional 30% off as an employee... so yeah... you can imagine where my paycheck went, especially cause I was without kids and an outdoor bum back then.

Yeh, they don't call those frickers Velcro dogs for nothing. Mine wants to go every where and be with me 100% of the time. Loves riding in the truck with me, gets pissy this time of year b/c I don't have all the windows open b/c it's too hot.

Always feel bad when it rains all the damn time... hard to get him out. He'll get in the water but isn't too keen on the rain.

Yeah mine is literally attached at the hip. He will be in a seriously deep sleep and frantically get up and follow me if I walk out of the room. It's great that he loves me so much, but it does get annoying at time because he really just doesn't leave me alone
