What difference does it make to you on my hunting lease.
You bitching about the quality of deer I choose to shoot on land you don’t have access to. Sounds like left wing logic.

I can remember my dad raising me to be ok with mediocrity and subpar standards. To each his own, honestly.

I really think setting up such standards really doesn’t do much because you are following herd recommendations, you need to maximize the strength of the herd not trophy tree

Levee, that’s a 5 yr old deer unless you are in grain fields of Midwest.

I have one of those on camera. He made it to 5 1/2 because he has been a scrub all his life and people passed on him.

In my opinion, killing that 235 buck is 10 times harder than that 130 inch 3 yr old deer.

We chased a buck at our place for 4 yrs. He was 140-150 inches at 3 yrs old. I shot at him at 3 1/2 and hit a tree limb between me and him. I missed him that day and no one laid eyes on him for 4 years except with cameras.

I killed him in almost the exact location 4 years later at 180 inches. It’s a lifetime deer and an amazing feeling to hunt a deer for 4 years and finally kill him.

We did not fire a shot on that property for four years because we let young bucks walk. We have another property that we shoot does on.

Killing a 5 yr old buck is an amazing accomplishment no matter what’s on his head. That’s a smart deer that’s well educated. He’s very very tough to kill.

Because your lease isn’t your property. Sort of like the neighbor in the subdivision who is renting a house and has crap all over the place.

Yes, he’s paying rent, but he’s affecting the value of his neighbors property who own where they live!

I bought a place this year, and when the Leasee’s came to remove stands they were griping about losing their lease. I asked them why they didn’t buy the property? There response was they didn’t want to get together and spend that much money.

Your lack of investment affects those who invest in their property! No, $1000-2000 per year in a lease is not an investment.

Upgrade, What about the neighbor next door who may have 250K-500k invested in his property?

We are outdoorsmen and we are either consumers of the land or producers. Consumers take and don’t worry about the effects. Producers work, give, and push for the growth of the habitat and the herd.

And what exactly does this have to do with me shooting legal deer?

Above is your response. You lease property and Your actions could affect those around you who actually invest. You don’t like left wing logic, and I agree, so surely you understand that your actions could affect those who do invest.

As a land owner, guys who lease have an affect on those of us who save and invest.

Well for one they don’t exist near me.
Number two, if they want everyone in the state, or maybe just the area they hunt to shoot the same type of deer that they target, maybe they should lobby wildlife and fisheries to change the regulations.

Lobby the state to change things?

Maybe you do like left wing logic because conservative right wing men govern themselves, and do what’s right by nature. They bring change, they don’t wait for government to bring change!

Or should I have said harvests the weakest first?

I’m telling you it’s not. We have good genetics for big bodies and bad genetics for big racks. Tons of acorns on my property. Low pressure

Levee,

What state are you in? Are you surrounded by grain fields?

Listen to this podcast with Dr Marcus Lashley. He used to be at Mississippi State. He is now head of the University of Florida deer lab.

Land and Legacy and Mississippi Deer Lab podcast are two of my favorites.

Then buy the surrounding land. Your ideals of management are based on your goals. You are manipulating nature for your enjoyment. Your particular brand of doing so is no more right or wrong than someone who enjoys seeing their kid shoot younger bucks.
