Apple snails are highly invasive. They feed on aquatic plants, and reproduce so quickly that they are basically the aquatic version of a feral hog. Also a huge rice pest in Asia. If those bastids get into SWLA as bad as SELA, the rice industry is in trouble.

You're not kidding. I went to build blinds couple weekends ago, they were everywhere in the water.

snail kites eat the hell out of them. I could be very wrong though.

You are not wrong, Limpkins eat them too. Invasive apple snails are good news for both Snail Kites and Limpkins.

Invasive species are rarely, if ever, good for native systems. Snail kites specialize on native apple snails, and have trouble with the exotic species that has been introduced. Specifically, juvenile kites have issues with consuming them efficiently, which is a big deal if that's the only prey item to find.

Also, it's important to note that snail kites are an endangered species and are not found in Louisiana, they are a species found in Florida then down through Mexico and the islands to the tropics.

Not without a wholesale massacre of our waterbodies. There is no specific pesticide for them.

Btw, those pink eggs everyone is seeing: don't touch them. They have a slime on them that is poisonous.
