It's a chickenshit move for sure.

Ok, detective Dogs do get loose, and it normally happens when the gate swings open. It’s not everyone else’s problem “muh dog can’t read your posted signs”
What I attempted to point out is that you would, in fact, give a shite if someone blasted your dog.

One of these to the arse are a good way to send them hollering back to the house no worse for wear. I used to keep one in the quiver, but I haven’t had problems with dogs in a while.

Those can definitely penetrate btw, I shot a coyote in the head with one at about 10 yards and it penetrated the skull. I had 3 arrows and one of these blunt in my quiver and walked up to a pack of coyotes on my way to stand. Hit one with a broadhead quartering away and it went through the ribs and into the back leg. It was still alive and I wanted my arrow back so I put it down with the blunt.

There's a difference between a random dog, and having neighbors or neighboring properties that routinely let dogs run.

Yeah, I’d recommend non-vitals(I mentioned arse in my first post) and probably further than 10 yards. I understand your coyote circumstance was different.

Well of course I would be upset, but I know I’d have only myself to blame

They make good targets!

Obvious their owners don't give a crap about them.

as with anything the response should be metered

Assuming same dog/dogs
1st sighting

wearing a collar not harassing game or hunters
try to identify by collar and return to owner

no collar not harassing game or hunters
do best to avoid dog and not look for owners

no collar looks otherwise kept harassing game or hunters
attempt to scare off

no collar looks un-kept harassing game or hunters
SSS

2nd sighting

wearing a collar not harassing game or hunters
return to owner

no collar not harassing game or hunters
collect and bring to pound

no collar looks otherwise kept harassing game or hunters
collect and bring to pound

no collar looks un-kept harassing game or hunters
SSS

3rd sighting

wearing a collar not harassing game or hunters
collect bring to pound (without collar)

no collar not harassing game or hunters
collect and bring to pound

no collar looks otherwise kept harassing game or hunters
SSS

no collar looks un-kept harassing game or hunters
SSS

4th sighting

wearing a collar not harassing game or hunters
remove to another location permanently or SSS

no collar not harassing game or hunters
SSS

no collar looks otherwise kept harassing game or hunters
SSS

no collar looks un-kept harassing game or hunters
SSS

If at any point dog is aggressive to human SSS

And how would I feel if it was my dog:

It was, I was sad I lost a pet/investment. I was also understanding of the dogs disappearance and not at all angry with the ranch hand who put it down.
