Thinking of making a scouting trip this weekend! How crowded does it get up there. Never hunted this Refuge. Tired of Tensas Refuge.

Not very, and since they released a statement admitting to screwing up the herd, there's probably even fewer hunters than before. Which unit you looking at?

You used to be able to get a permit/pamphlet at the convenience store on 84. I guess online is so easy now it doesn't matter.

Looking at Cross Bayou unit.

Brooks break looks really accessible with all the trails but worried it may have more traffic to to more trails.

I find it easy to get away from guys there, but I walk far. Very few people hunt North, and that section gets a lot of traffic from the cut over.

its not crowded at all. only bad thing is bow season doesn't start until November on it.

be prepared to see tons of hog sign, as they are in there thick. i only went on it squirrel hunting/scouting back in February and saw several deer. there were several jawbones from decent bucks in the basket at the check-in station when I went that peaked my interest but I had a stroke back in July and am still recovering so that'll put a damper in my public land hunting for the upcoming season.
