snakes will fix your chipmunk problem, but then you could have a snake problem.
chipmunks probably won't eat too much rat poison unless you put peanut butter or something on it...then everything will hit it, including dogs.

Had the same problem.It is hard to poison them. Tried the peanut butter but the ants got it first. Have trapped 20+ but I didn't get them all. I bought fox urine and sprayed old socks and scattered around the yard. I haven't seen a chipmunk or sign of a chipmunk since then. I re-spray every now and then to make sure they don't come back.

Common cat stuff especially in the spring. We have moles and frogs on our front porch pretty often.

Get a dachshund. If you can find one that hasn't had the fight bred out of him. I know they still use them around OK to hunt prairie dogs.
