Nah, I think he thought dawg was taking a shot at him because he had the newer model

I'm messing around. Didn't know what a yak was. I'll try the oven cleaner.
I found the grumman historian guy, and I might do that. According to him, a lot of their early records no longer exist, so he has had to compile info himself.
Thanks for the help.

You're missing out. Even on the lake, which is not the Tripper's forte (turning it into the wind when you're soloing it is hard work), it was fun to play with it, trying to to board it while swamped, then bail, and realize just how much mass it had when filled with water. I was glad it wouldn't sink!

The earliest models of these were made in 1944, apparently, but if the tag shown in the link on page 1 is an example of their only 1940's tag, that's not what I have, but I do know that it predates 1962. The Sport Boats were produced for a long time. I might have to go through the scrap books to see when it first appeared.

Yeah, post an old picture of the boat, the older the better. Here is a picture from May, 1977. Not sure what river they were on, but it was surely somewhere up in New England.

Here it is on a trailer. Not a very good pic, but you can see the keel and basic shape.

There were no oven cleaners that were safe for aluminum. Any other suggestions?

You can try nail polish. Put in on with a soaked paper towel, cover with syran wrap overnight then try to work it off with a putty knife or 5in1 tool. You'll know if it's gonna work if the paint is a little wrinkled. It may take more than one application if it's multiple layers.
If that doesn't work you can try Zip Strip, mineral spirits or even aircraft paint stripper.
The aircraft stripper is the strong stuff and will be the most difficult to find a good one. It will eat up your hands and choke you if you breathe it so be careful. But it is designed for aluminum
