If you need an illustration why you never judge a rifle by its performance with communist steel case ammo. Apparently my $99 Anderson 6.5 Grendel barrel and matching $131 BCG loves Hornady 123gr SST. Even with a 4-12x44 scope at 100 yards I thought my next two shots were off the paper. Shot from a lead sled to take me out of the equation.

What length barrel and how much do you like it? I am looking at converting from .223 and shooting between 6.5 Grendel or 6.8 SPC.

Mine is a 16". Built as a brush/hunting gun in the AR platform. Really liked what I read about the 6.5 Grendel's ballistics. Availability of cheap steel case ammo for plinking pushed me towards the 6.5 over the 6.8. You get a nice performance boost going over 20" barrel length but I didn't want to go that long for a brush gun.

My home built with 18" stainless barrel will stay on a quarter at 100 yards with the Hornady sst
Got the barrel from model 1 sales in Dallas and I believe it is a Shaw
It's also labeled a 6.5 sporter or something like that because it was made prior to SAAMI adopting the specifications and Alexander releasing the rights, so there had to be a difference and it couldn't be called a Grendel

My 6.8spc loves 120g SST - best ammo I have found for it.

I've posted here several times about how much tighter groups are with 150 grain SST in my .308 AR-10 than with any other ammo I've tried.

What AR-10 are you shooting? I'm in the market for one

Mine is a DPMS -- built well before they were bought out by Remington/Freedom Group.

Mine is exceptionally accurate and has been quite reliable (zero malfunctions). Unfortunately, lots of reviews/reports after the acquisition of DPMS were not very flattering.

Not sure what the current status might be for DPMS' QA/QC. I'd do some homework before buying one these days -- hopefully the problems that some people used to report have been solved.

There are probably some folks here that have some insights that I don't have.

Ejection pattern ifyou are into reading those tea leaves have the spent shells ejecting around 5 O'clock. Don't see any issues on the spent cases. Don't notice any bolt bounce. Or anything else. Feels about like shooting my bolt 253
