Oh, marks-a-lot is your friend when offshore fishing. I had used them on crank baits for wahoo and tuna. Also on hooks.

Offshore and inshore in crystal clear water, hook color matters. If you're bass fishing in S. LA, I have never noticed a difference in catch rate

Thanks. She's a blast. I am excited to see how much she has progressed from last year (her first hunting season) to this coming up duck season.

Does hook color matter for you?

I don't know if it matters but I use red hooks with certain flukes and spinner baits and it seems to help a lot at certain times. At other times I can't really tell the difference between that and regular silver hooks.

Red light is the first to filter out in water as you get deeper. So theoretically you should use red with all deep water presentations. But in reality it would just appear black then.

I use black owner and gamakatsu hooks and have some red ones I use intermittently. I have less confidence in the red ones but, I have never seen a catch rate difference.

I'll try these. I use gamakatsu hooks all the time (that's what my red hooks are). I have never used a black hook. Where can I pick these up? I never see any black ones at Academy.

I have done this to some of my white spinnerbaits and it seems to work more times than none.

if you want an invisible hook go with red. It is the first color to be filtered out due to its wavelength. Go find one of lsu hat's videos and watch red dissapear as he goes in the water.

You cant see the color, but you can still see the object. So by your own argument, the red doesnt matter.

Ive used both with success. Black more than any other though for me.

I usually get my hooks at Academy. Like BP said, its prob what your using now but its not really black. Its just a dark metal, unlike typical white perch hooks or catfish hooks.

Figured. I had to think a minute when I first started reading this thread about what they were referring too. Ive never heard them called black before today, but its as close as it gets I believe.

To expand on this, I think at around 15ft red is filtered out But I have read that it shows up as gray.

That was my point. Just because you dont see the color doesnt mean the object isnt seen or is any more difficult to see.
