If i'm on private land I'm grabbing my .308 for hogs. I've shot 100+ lb pigs behind the shoulder and had complete pass throughs on multiple occasions with 40 gr CCI game points. It puts them down quick. I try to earhole them, though. I usually kill 10 or so hogs a year with it.

In Georgia and Florida, you can only use whatever weapons are in season for hogs on public land. If it's small game season, you're stuck with rimfire rifles. I'm not sure if Louisiana's is the same but I would imagine that's why he's going that route.

Fair enough.

Doesn't matter to me. I don't hunt there anymore. If I did, I'd probably go by the state's website. Not all game wardens are on the same page.

The cost of ammo is definitely a consideration but if I plan to shoot 100+ yards I’m grabbing the 17HMR and don’t get some cheesy rimfire scope for it get a scope with some magnification. The first day I took mine to the range I was shooting cloverleaf patterns at 50 yards and hitting spent 270 casings at 100. I have 22lr and 17hmr, for hunting I’ll grab 22 with solid points but for targets 17hmr vmax or fmj

Definitely get a .22LR based on price of ammo. If you get one of the CZ bolt-actions, hold off on the scope-you may like the iron peep sights so much that you don't want to throw off the balance and add weight to such a fine rifle.
