Group of 8 of us are heading out for a two day hunt with GooseReapers in southern Oklahoma. Going to Hunt field mallards Wednesday and geese on Thursday. Looks like a good little cold front will be arriving with us. 25/41 Wednesday and 19/34 Thursday.

Anyone have any advice or stories about hunting Canadas and Mallards in Oklahoma or field hunting in General?

Wait for the guide to scream "Kill em" the first bunch, then pound away at will on all the others. You'll thank me later....

Man I hope so. It will be the first time for any of us Hunting fields and Canadas. Those pictures are from this season but it seems like the geese have slowed down from the success they were having in November and beginning of December. They have been clobbering the ducks lately however. If we can kill 30-40 Canadas and a boatload of mallards/pintails we will probably start doing it every year.

Thanks for the invite

My advice. Dress warm. Shoot straight.

Killed a few ducks a few days ago at a buddy's farm. Marsh has been slow. Geese have been weird.

Pretty simple. Do what the guide tells you. Will probably have to help put out decoys

Don't use words like smoke or clobber and you will be good

I'm prepared for the cold. I decided I'm just going to wear my new banded waders since they are practically bibs with built on boots. It's literally insane of comfortable they are. I'll loan my bibs to one of the other guys if they need them. Two packs of hothands, medium gloves, heavy gloves, beanie, balcava, UA 3.0 cold gear, banded pullover, Patagonia vest, wader jacket, merino socks, and two flasks for fire water. I'm as prepared as I'm going to get.

Man remind me to never invite y'all on a hunt. There is nothing wrong with a few swigs to kill the cold in the blind

It wouldn't matter. Once I knew you were comfortable with drinking and shooting a shotgun around my head, I'd be busy anyway.

Every hunting outfit I've ever hunted with or researched has a no alcohol policy. Just a potential heads up.

They're probably just prudes. Nothing to do with safety or anything.

You will be asked to leave if you plan on drinking on a guided hunt.. Now, if it's your blind and with your buddies that's different a little blind wine don't hurt but not on a guided hunt they don't look kindly upon that.

If the outfit has a problem with it then no problem. Never been on a guided hunt so I didn't know. That's just more ill have to drink back at the lodge.
