Has anyone ever used a boat membership service?

Like a boating club, where you join for a monthly fee or something like that and have access to a boat at your convenience.

If so, about how much did it cost and did you like it?

I've been looking at this one in Charleston, surprisingly affordable. If I lived closer I'd have already joined. The monthly fee is similar to if you did a charter, and still much cheaper than ownership.

We're in one, not sure on cost, company pays for it. We love it, use the hell out of it. Every time we go to Destin, we get one and the only daily cost is fuel. Definitely nice to be able to drive up, hop in for however long, and bring back and drive off. I do believe it is pretty pricey, would need to use it several times of year for it to be worth the cost.

Also, the one we are in is all over the country, including where I live.

In addition to the fuel (which is double the price on the street) do you tip the dock boys?

Freedom Boat Club. Yeah, we do if someone is around, sometimes leave a few dollars in the cup holder if they're not.

When I looked at Houston area one I want fo say it was like $3-5k buy in (depending on promotions) and another $300/mo.

Only fuel+ice charges as consumed.

Joined a boat club when I lived in Tampa and it was a great experience over two years. Several types of boats (CC, Bay, Deck) and reasonable reservation system (2 1/2 days or 1 full day at a time).

Loved hitting the dock, unloading gear and taking off. No worries of gas, cleaning, towing, etc.

Really good deal as well.

Yeah, pretty much same deal with Freedom. The not having to tow, clean, and refuel is nice. Always feel like I'm doing something wrong for how easy it is.
