I have this one for a 17 ft shallow water skiff. Does not need to be charged very often and can have AA batteries in storage for backup power.

Use the 20% off code and it goes to $80 plus tax.

I would get the icom.

I have a west brand and a cobra that crapped out after a year.

The icom has made it about 5 by now.

This is the new model of what I have.

Agree with other poster - get the icom. We use a handheld icom fairly regularly in the biloxi marsh. Still won't beat a fixed unit, but ...

Thanks all.

Was set on ICOM, then noticed Standard Horizon HX870 w/ GPS, DSC and $40 rebate.

If it lasts two years, no complaints.

You might want to consider spending a few dollars more for the model w gps and DSC. Could really make the diff should you ever have a real emergency.
