Gun related legal question

Pretty much a “what would you do” question.
About a year and a half ago, I bought a browning Blr 30-06. I talked with a gunsmith out of Nevada, and immediately upon delivery of the rifle, I did the paperwork and sent it off to him. He did a barrel swap, trigger job and polished the action for a super smooth operation.
I talked with, and put down a $700 deposit with MPI custom stocks. My gunsmith shipped the gun to MPI last September, when he was done with the custom work. The plan was MPI would build and fit the custom stock, then ship the gun back to my gunsmith so he could cerakote the stock and the metal components.
MPI told me that my deposit would initiate the build to speed up the process. I talked with them back in May, and was told the guy that builds them was out on medical leave, but my stock would be finished by “July or August”.
I’ve been trying to contact them for an update. Facebook messenger, Instagram, email, and call 2-3 times daily and leave voicemails. Facebook shows that they view my messages, but they don’t call me back or even message me.
My gunsmith obviously wants to be paid, which I will pay him, but his work isn’t done so he doesn’t want payment. I feel bad for him doing most of the work, and not collecting payment, but I’m also frustrated that I’m getting ignored by the company that physically has my gun.
I’m considering getting my lawyer involved at this point. Would that be unreasonable? What would the OB do in this situation?
TLDR: do not use MPI custom stocks for anything.

I had an issue with a AR upper several years back that I ordered and was given every single excuse and different stories from different people over a period of like 2mts. ~350$ was not gonna be enough money to get a lawyer involved so I contacted the better business bureau and the state attorney general’s office.
All the supply chain/cerakote booth/workforce issue they had been experiencing were resolved and I got my upper with a discount within 3-5 days!

I just filed a complaint with them. Maybe that will be enough to get a response. If not, I’ll probably reach out to the attorney generals office in WA and see what they can do.
I was hoping to have this gun for last season. Now it’s looking like I won’t have it for this one either

Well, the guy is obviously still on medical leave and you calling them 3 times per day won’t do anything to change that, if you get your lawyer involved, they will ultimately send your gun back, but it may be disassembled or something like that. If it will help with the relationship with your gunsmith, offer him partial payment for the work that he was able to accomplish.

Sorry for your trouble. I wouldn’t be doing gun business on the west coast. Surely there’s someone in driving distance.

I talked to the lady back in October or november, because I was thinking my stock would be done by then. I got this project going around February or March of 2025, which is when I first talked to MPI and put the $700 deposit down. She told me that they would start building the stock, so when they got the gun from my gunsmith, all they would have to do is fit and finish. So they had from March until September to do that, but didn’t. The whole medical leave thing came up when we spoke in Oct/nov, and she said it would be “after the holidays”. I waited patiently until May, before calling over and over until finally getting a call back. She said the guy was back at work and my stock would be finished by July, august at the latest. So I’ve been very patient, but now I’m frustrated because I have $4,600 wrapped up in this build already and can’t even get a call back with an update.

Not a chance in hell I’m spending $4600 on a gun to shoot a damn overgrown goat!!

That’s before whatever the gunsmith charges, and the other $700 they want for the stock. I spent that and the only thing I have is a scope sitting in the gun safe

The problem is they won’t pick up the phone and just give me an update. I’ve asked for an update probably 3 times in a year. I don’t feel like I’m nagging them. It’s just starting to feel like something’s not right. Also, when I spoke to her back in May, she said she was going to get in touch with the gunsmith since the gun is going back to him to get cerakoted. She never got in touch with him. She also opens my Facebook messages, but doesn’t respond. So there’s quite a few problems actually.
