Have a 2012 GMC Sierra and the brakes are making a low pitch grinding/scraping sound that is worst when braking in a turn. I changed the pads and had a former mechanic check out the rotors and he said they were in good shape and didn't need to be filed down. That's about the extent of what I could come up with as far as the issue. What says the OB? TIA

I just changed my wheel bearings on my 2011 Silverado. The only indicator I had was what you are describing. Jack up a front tire and spin it to listen for any grinding. Grab the tire with one hand on top and one on bottom and work it back and forth. There shouldn’t be any play in that direction. One of my wheel bearings was really bad but they both needed to be changed.

Exactly. The are tapered and if bad will sometimes make more noise when turning.

Did the guy who did the brake job not check them?

It might sound like brakes dragging if they aren't too bad, but yours is probably gonna be obvious. I also always swap both side's bearings at the same time

Passenger side made a grinding noise when turning but only at one point in the rotation so I couldn't tell for sure if it was the bearings. I would have thought it would be throughout the rotation. We took the pads and caliper off so I don't think it's anything rubbing on the rotor.

Got her fixed up in the shop at the office. It was the bearings. Me and a coworker knocked it out in a couple hours. Would have been a lot shorter, but it took 45 minutes to find a 15mm socket. Thanks guys!

i sure hope you went with Moog or Precision hub assembly or you will more than likely be changing them out again in about a year. Hold onto the receipt for sure.
