My wife and I are planning a trip to Grand Isle the first weekend in August. I plan on renting her a fishing kayak there. I don't have means of transporting one from Lafayette so the next best thing is to rent one there. I have looked up the three that rent kayaks there which are Bayou Jim's, Ken Linn, and Calmwater Charters. Calmwater rents the Native Watercraft Ultimate 12. Does anyone know what the other two rent? I e-mailed Bayou Jim's and we have gone back and forth and they don't want to give away the 'secret'. I called Ken Linn with no success. I am trying to set up my wife in something with some comfort and that Native Ultimate appears to be a sit in.

I may have to but I still want a comfortable kayak! I did ask her if she would have a problem paddling and she laughed at me. We both have been kayaking for quite some time now. I think she would be lost with peddling but I am sure she would get comfortable quick.

My wife uses a Commander(like the Ultimate) and wants no part of a SOT.

Have you checked with Pack and Paddle? I know they rent a few different brands, and they can probably supply a trailer or roof rack.

A Native Ultimate is a hybrid sit-in/sit on. Yes it's not a self-bailing hull and it doesn't have scupper holes to drain water but it's just as comfortable as a sit-on-top. The seat is raised, adjustable, and very comfortable. I recently bought an Ultimate FX Propel and it is quickly becoming my favorite kayak.

ETA they paddle very well, your wife will appreciate that
