Grew up fishing out of leeville area. Now my son is getting to the age where I want to bring him. He is 5. Problem is I dont want to bring the boat down there. Because the last thing I need is a whiney kid bored on a boat in the marsh. Does anyone know a good place where you can fish from shore or bank and catch a decent amount of fish. Used to fish off the right side of road right past leeville bridge when tide was running through culverts. I also remember how close the road used to be to bank with cars flying by.

Yeah man. You can fish the G.I. bridge but I would under no circumstances fish the highway. Drag the boat and fish the rocks by Bridge Side or behind the island. Even the surf in front of Elmer's close to the pass.

Don't plan on catching "a decent amount of fish." If that is your goal leave the kid home. Take him to a pond with bream close to home where he can run around and be a 5 year old.

Go fish morning before it gets hot. Round lunch go to bridgeside, get a burger, chillax on the porch, then hit the afternoon bite. That way it keeps him someone in shape.

Will be staying in a cabin at Bridge side the second weekend of August. Plan on bringing the boat. Is this a good time of year? Been a very long time since I was there. Need some tips please

if the water is clean you can catch specks on the beaches.
bullreds have officially made their way into the pass. anchor out on the west side of the pass, chunk a cracked crab and hang on

Fish should be everywhere. Lots of small fish this year though.

If it's a relatively calm day you should be fine. Kayaks fish the pass all the time

Me and my buddy had a good talk about that bridge the otherday. This is The question that I brought up to him.

What extent would you go to if you hooked a tagged redfish on the bridge with 12 pound test?

He said he would give me the rod and jump off the bridge to get him. But I told him it probably wouldn't count because I would have the rod when the fish is landed.

I said depending how he was hooked. Let him swim out
Walk all the way down the bridge and land him off one of the piers.

I've done this for a non tagged fish on the old bridge. Sucks if there is a lot of people on the bridge.

I'm going with some buddies on Saturday. Launching the yaks at Elmer's so we'll have about a 2 mile radius to hit beach, marsh and the pass.

Jimbeam - Taking the family down to GI this weekend. Will target specks in the am early but want to try to get them on a red or two. I hear this alot about reds in the pass but are they talking near the bridge, or actually near the gulf interface; middle, towards the banks or all of the above? Any tips would be helpful - never fished for bull reds like this. I assume cracked crab or a minnow on the bottom?? Thanks in advance for any help!

Good way to break your legs or back. It's about 2 feet deep on the west end for a long way out.

If you go out the marinas, towards the gulf through the pass, you'll see boats on either side. It gets shallow(relative to the pass) here. Usually anchor out along the bank somewhat and cast towards the middle. Reds will hit bait along the dropoff. Just follow everyone else. can't miss it

I know everybody swears by cracked crab but I have had much more success with cut mullet. And the post above is dead on. Cast into the drop-off. Rod in rod holder. Beer in hand.
