Have you removed the restrictor?

Anyone got any suggestions for a radio set up for under $500. Thought about just a bluetooth waterproof speaker but kind of like the idea of something mounted to the roof.

Boss makes one. It's on amazon, and I'm sure elsewhere. It's not as clean looking as the $500+ ones, and I'm sure it doesn't sound as good either. But for the money, it's hard to beat. I went this route because I wanted to be able to switch it between the ranger and the rzr. And I didn't want to spend a fortune.

this is it

There are probably better options now.

This "may" void your warranty. So if you take it off, keep it, and put it back on if it goes back to the stealer for anything.

I stole this off a ranger forum because it's different on the new ones.

"Remove the hose clamp that connects the rubber airbox boot (connects the airfilter and the throttle body) from the aluminum throttle body and seperate the two. Inside the airbox boot you will see a plastic insert that reduces to tubing from 2" to 3/4". Pull that out, it's the restrictor."

If you google ranger 800 crew restrictor there's lots of info about it. Some folks say you need a fuel controller with it. But the general consensus is that that's nonsense and it's the best and easiest way to gain power on them. It'll be like a different bike. I read about it causing some of them to run lean. But sometimes it doesn't. If it doesn't work you can always put it back on.

Also, my absolute first purchase would be a service manual. I bought the one for the rzr off ebay and the one for the ranger off paypal somewhere. They're cheap and indispensable.

Do you weld?

Edited to add:

No I don't. But I'm curious about what you come up with. I've read about people using small automobile mufflers on them with success. And I've read mixed things about the kolpin's. If you use some sound dampening stuff around the engine as well that will help a lot.

I have a welder but I have never welded. I suppose I should learn.

I am most concerned about not restricting down the motor with the add on exhaust if I do it myself. From what I understand all of the premades are just glass packed mufflers so it should not be too hard to fab.

I enjoy making my own mods but it may be more time/cost effective to just buy a prebuilt one though.

I think my idea for homemade fender extensions is going to work well and if so will save me $240.

Awesome. FWIW the cheapest I could find a way to ship you the wood was $350 and honestly I don't think the wood is going to work as well for you as you are hoping.
