getting back into bow hunting and i was thinking about buying a new bow.

I've had 3 bows since my bowtech allegiance. Just like shooting new bows but i still shoot my allegiance for hunting the most. Love that bow. I would just upgrade site, rest and put new strings.

If you’re comfortable and accurate with it no need to change. Freshen it up and get to slinging.

I love new cool shite. but i really dont think it will make me more accurate. i mean, once i was dialed in, i was within a couple inches between 20-40 yards and was with in 12-16in at 55-60 when i was just seeing how far i could go.

I can second Bootlegger too though. By the time you upgrade sight, rest, quiver etc. you could be looking at easily $300 for good products. You can normally find a 3-4yr old bow decked out for $4-500

It's of course not necessary to get a new one, but if you can justify a "luxury" expense right now I would at least go to a pro shop and shoot a newer bow to see the difference.

If you have several things you need to get back into bow hunting, maybe buy those and hold off a year or so on the bow?

All I know is I was in a similar spot - bow hunted with a Hoyt for several years, stopped bow hunting when I hunted on a rifle-only place in S. Texas for a few years, and then when I started bow hunting again in Kansas recently went out and bought a Mathews Halon 32. I am extremely happy with the purchase and this Halon will stay with me a very long time. Bows manufacturers are continually changing, so you do get better equipment if you buy newer. But that is not to say your 2006 is not completely serviceable.

Yeah it's a tricky situation. You could spend a lot to get the bow tuned up but you will spend more on a new one.

Sight ($100-300), rest ($100-200), quiver ($50) are all things you'll need if you buy a new bow. Including arrows which you may or may not be buying either way.

The costs that are different will be a new string (probably has some stretch and fraying by now) and a tune up at the shop. $150ish


First things first is I would go to a bow shop and have them check for cam and limb fatigue.

im really getting the feeling i want to buy a Bowtech Realm X. I need to go shoot it. I mean i have had this bow since 2009. So it is not like i will buy another one for a very long time.

I shoot the same bow I've had for 10 years. It shoots straight as hell and doesn't make much noise. I just can't justify what they want for a new one when I wouldn't be gaining much if anything.

BTW, my uncle (you guys know one of my ancestors was Howard HIll) who is in his mid 60's still shoots a compound bow he bought back in the early 80's. A couger magnum I think it is, and he can kick my arse and anyone else's arse with that wore out piece of shite any day of the week.

Message: it's not so much the equipment as it is who is using it. If you like your unit and it still shoots straight, re-string it, keep it waxed and spend that money on something that's actually needed.
