First outdoor board post, thank y’all in advance for your input.
I haven’t bought a new bow since 2009, and I’m way behind on the new technology and brand innovations. I’m of moderate/average skill, I usually don’t hunt further than 45 yards or so. I’m a bigger guy, so I have a longer lop and draw weight, if that factors in. All hunting is stands or blinds. I’m not married to any brand (currently shooting a Hoyt carbon matrix). Would like to be around $1500 all in (sights rest and everything).

I would go to a local shop with an array of brands and shoot every single one. I was dead set on a Prime bow a few years ago. Went in to the bow shop, shot it, and fell in love with it. While the bow tech was helping another customer, I grabbed an Elite off the shelf. Pulled it back, and immediately forgot about buying the Prime. It just felt better to me.

Go to a few different shops and shoot what will fall into your budget. Everyone will have their preference as the fit is different for everyone. I’m shooting a older Bowtech now but with shoulder issues my next one will probably be an Elite as I find their cam cycle is smoother.

I’d give Obsession a look.

Go to several reputable archery shops with experienced sales staff. I would avoid BPS, Cabela's, Dicks, and other big box stores. Test drive as many bows possible and let the bow choose you. You will know when you find the right one. Regardless of the name brand, most companies make really nice high end bows with similar technology. Also, the most expensive bow is not always the best fit. My last word of advice, don't get sold on speed. Find a bow that is very comfortable (draw cycle, back wall, hold, follow through) and you can shoot consistently accurate.

The brand doesn’t really matter all that much. Bowtech mathews elite pse etc. they’ll all shoot good if they are set up well and tuned. Get whichever one you like the most at whichever dealer gives you the warm and fuzzies.

I also don’t want to burst your bubble but $1500 won’t get you what your after if you buy all new everything at a dealer. After taxes you’ll be over $1200 on almost any of the flagship bare bows. And you don’t want to have $300 to spend on a quiver, sight, and rest. If anything a quality sight and rest are as important as the bow.

I have an elite remedy. The elite set technology is nice because you can clean up your arrow flight without a press.

All brands will have their thing. Most modern bows are all great, so you just have to pick what you like; from draw smoothness, hard back wall, dead in the hand after release. So many great options, you just have to try them all and see where you preference lies….
