It is not my booth. There’s a guy on Instagram beryllium32250 who built a 17.5 beryllium. It’s a clean build that is typically what I show ppl I am building to explain. He bought that to paint his in and he really liked it. He later used it to paint his sons four runner and it came out mint.

Worked on rough cutting the foam in. Overall I’m very happy with the fitup.

Table saw to cut the bevels has been the ticket so far. Also a Japanese saw has become irreplaceable. I’m probably spending too much time sanding foam but it’s rewarding to me at this point to get everything to fit well.

The straight edge on the pad isn’t as straight as I’d like so I will come back and chalk line it or something. As I said I’m going overboard I know but I don’t want to start off the build shrugging my shoulders and saying it’ll be fine.

Absolutely love it. I will say, it is the only poling skiff I have ever owned so I don't have much to compare it too. Mine is a gen 1 and the build quality while acceptable is only average. It is a relatively dry ride and floats in dew, so no complaints there. I have seen one of the newer Cayenne's and it looked like they had improved. I do know the price can not be beat.

I really planned to put in some hours Thursday and Friday but got invited to dinner with friends both days so I maybe only put in an hour or two each day.

Was able to devote today to the boat so got a bit more done and I had my helper.

I’m really hoping that this is some of the hardest pieces to cut and fit because it was a lot of trial and error and I defintiely feel it’s far from perfect but I think it turned out ok.

I used a compass scribe to sketch the half moon shape the foam needed to be cut in for up on the bow. then hand sanded to get it a little better.

Once the bottom edge fit tightish with minimal gaps to the sheer flange I used sources of foam laid in the upper spray rail flats and traced the edge pulled it off the boat and cut the inch or so excess I left myself.

I then had the helper come and long board that top edge so the it was flush with the upper spray rails and can just come back and lay the spray rail foam over it. May not have been the easiest way but it seems to have worked.

I am really crossing my fingers that the rest of the foaming goes easier and faster now that most of it will be done with 3” strips.

Also used the extra hand while he was here to help rip 2 sheets of 3” strips.

Called it a day at 4pm as I was getting tired and didn’t want to have him here all day.

You would be surprised how much the average person could pick this up and do it.

I am by no means a skilled woodworker I would say I’m the average DIY framer skill set.

It’s looking like time and patience will go a long way when it comes to this stuff.

It’s slowed down just a hair. Last weekend I drove to Destin to go fishing. But steady just chipping away at rough cutting the foam.

Basalt got delivered last week. Have a 500lb pallet of epoxy and other fiberglass it materials being delivered to the plant tomorow. Will try to work a little on it tomorrow but going to Nola this weekend so won’t make much progress until next week.

Been working on the flat chines and the flat sections in the back that can be done in big panels.

I’ve been doing more tracing than lofting dimensions. I’ve found using strips of scrap foam as a Batton is super easy. You can see in the pics how I can trace pretty close and fair lines onto the foam to be cut.

On a side note the fishing trip that slowed my progress a bit was to go help out on the boat that I mated on after college. And let me tell you what it was demoralizing. First of all the owner hates open water trolling and we spent half the day Sunday and half the day Monday doing nothing but that and only ended up raising 2 whites and missed the bites. Then top it off that all day Monday we watched this boat absolutely stroke them it left us feeling like we were the worst fishermen ever to exist. Made us feel a little better knowing that boat was using an Omni sonar and was able to find and drive over fish all day.

We may not be able to do much about the Omni until the new boat is bought but I can gaurantee we aren’t going billfishing without atleast 2 dozen natural baits in the dredges rather than running just artificial dredges. We absolutely should have rose more fish than we did.

All that said, Pretty Work was done by the Linda Lucille.

Made a little more progress last few days. Go between days of fighting to figure out how do something and making almost no problem to then sleeping on it and flying through it the next day

The lower chine joint where everything comes to a point really had me pissed because I couldn’t get it how I wanted after I spent four hours on it. Went to sleep and knocked it out like it was nothing the next day

Didn’t work much this weekend because I went down to port o Connor. Ended up getting to meet up and talk to two other guys that have built these Morejohns boats and got to crawl around one of their builds.

I think the next thing that will haunt me is tying to get the centerline cut.

Fished on a boat with an Omni for the Grand champion in orange beach. Pretty neat technology. Caught a 500 pounder.

Did some straightening edges and tried to cut the centerline nest I could so I could start on the other side.

Honestly kind of avoiding the work that I despised on the other side but no more procrastination work lol

Also just realized I might be the first tunnel beryllium build much less a 17.5’ beryllium tunnel. a little nerve wracking not knowing how it does lol.

Wow. I have always considered doing this, but never found plans I liked.
The 18.5 Beryillum looks to be exactly what I was looking for... I've already gotten reply emails from Nathan and Chris.
I fished out of a Maverick 18HPX for three years and loved it. This seems to have similar stability and space... plans will be ordered.

Go on microskiff.com read through Jgliddens build, Seth sawyers build, Vanm, Chris Morejohns build that is stocked to the top of the bragging spot, there’s gotta be atleast a dozen other build threads on there. It’s a great place for information.

Instagram there are countless build threads. Beautiful examples are Beryllium32250, the_mullet_shepherd, Coreybreuckner, harrismarshall.

It’s unbelievable how many people have built or started building these boats since Covid. When I first followed these threads in 2018 there were only maybe four being built or built.
